Things are not how they begin but how they end "The Black Gazelle" “Sports Saturdays”

Hello friends of the Freecompliments community! Today I want to tell you another inspiring sports story, at least it inspires me. This is the story of Wilma Rudolph, best known for "The Black Gazelle."

In 1961, Wilma became the fastest woman in the world when she broke the world record for the 100 meter dash in Stuttgart with 11.2 seconds. She was also the first American woman to win three gold medals in the same Olympic Games. But the story of this young American athlete is much more than just numbers.

Wilma was born on June 23, 1940 in Tennessee to a very poor family. She had no more and no less than 21 siblings, being one of the youngest. Her life did not start out easy as she had several serious health problems including an attack of polio which left her leg paralyzed for some time.

But none of that could with Wilma's will, she managed to move forward and become the fastest woman in the world. She retired very young at the height of her sports career, at 22 years old.
She finished her studies and was a leader in the black community in the fight to end racial segregation laws.
She died young at age 54 due to a brain tumor and her health problems never left her. She had a brief but intensely lived life.
Even today it is remembered!
