When we are new moms we still do not coordinate the baby's schedule because we feel that every now and then they need something different and the hours fly by, it is always good when we have the help of family and friends who usually have more experience than us on the subject.

Particularly today I want to talk about feeding the baby which is essential for their development and it is very important that they eat the first hours after birth so they do not suffer from digestive problems or colic.

In consultation with Pediatrician Patricia Bruzco, a graduate of the Universidad de Oriente, Bolivar, I told her that when my baby (the oldest) was born he did not want to eat, he refused the bottle so the nurses took him to me to breastfeed him a few hours after his birth, however when I tried to breastfeed him he also rejected it, the pediatrician told me that this is usually due to psychological factors rather than digestive.

"The stress that the baby goes through after birth can affect his appetite, remember that the baby comes from being in his mother's womb in a different environment than the one he perceives when he is born and even his way of feeding is different, this change of environment and temperature can affect the appetite of the newborn", commented the specialist.

"It is advisable that after three hours after birth the baby is fed even if he does not ask for it, to avoid the baby getting gassy and later suffering from colic," the pediatrician indicated.

The specialist added that in the case of this situation it is important to force them to eat to prevent them from suffering digestive problems "They have to eat even if it is a small amount, preferably breastfeeding, this is very common in many children when they are just born and parents worry a lot but when they feel more comfortable and perceive their mother's affection everything changes, it is something of adaptation".

Dr. Me indicated that the best way to feed babies is with breastfeeding, "Let's remember that formula milk tries to imitate the nutrients of breast milk, however it does not match them, so specialists recommend exclusive breastfeeding for at least the first six months of the baby," added the pediatrician.

At that time I was very inexperienced and worried when the nurse told me that out of all the babies, mine was the only one who did not want to eat, that I should breastfeed him to prevent him from getting sick.

I started to try to give him a swear, but we both suffered because being a first time mom my nipples were not formed and it was literally like sticking a child in a needle, until after a few laaaaong minutes and the baby after feeling my body temperature and already more familiarized we kept trying and we got it, but imagine, he with his little mouth so small and with his eyes closed and I with a flat nipple, it was an odyssey for both, the baby sucked right in the milk duct and there he stayed for a while.

It is wonderful and inexplicable the bond that a mother develops with the baby after breastfeeding, so I invite you first-time mommy to breastfeed your baby, and if the baby is not full you can supplement with formula milk always relying on the advice of your pediatrician.

I hope you are doing amazing, enjoy this stage of your life, give lots of love to your baby and do not forget the importance of feeding your child, it is always good to keep track of the last time you fed your baby so you know when he/she will be hungry again and you will be prepared.

Because I didn't have a camera I couldn't take the picture of Dr. Patricia, so I document with the help of pixabay.

With love from your friend and Journalist @yelimarin
