Remodeling with my First Power Up @yelimarin

What a pleasure to be able to greet you and share my experiences with you! I am very happy because I have many details to solve in my home and thanks to my first Power Up it is being possible. I have eight years since I moved into my new three-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. Together with my family, a new three-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment, I have wanted to do a lot of remodeling, but due to budget limitations it has not been possible.

A few years ago I started the construction of my kitchen, but it is still in fifty percent of progress, the rest I have not been able to finish for lack of money. I am like many wage earners in my country and practically what I earn is spent on airfare, however, I have wanted to make many improvements and I am working on it to be able to finish them.

There are many repairs, many details to be finished, so that I feel in absolute comfort, not with luxuries, but with comfort, but money is always my limiting factor and at all times the priority ends up being food.

Because I live on the first floor I was fortunate to have a space to make an extension, initially, the distribution of the apartment did not convince me and I made many changes, until the economic situation of my country worsened and I had to postpone them. But I am aware of the expenses and what it implies in terms of labor and material required for the repairs.

I am not an expert in the field, but I have informed myself with experts in the construction area as to what I want to do and what I need to do to do it, so I am documenting for you the step by step of what I have been able to achieve. Join me.

The first thing I did was to knock down the wall that initially brought the apartment and expand into what would be my laundry room, I had to throw a small plate in the ceiling and then everything came to a standstill. In addition, I have not had a professional and responsible mason, so I have lived traumatic experiences in all these years to be able to make my kitchen, or the advances that go from it.

My husband and I are both communicators and he does not know anything about construction, he usually spends the day working and I, being more curious and insistent, have documented myself and I know what I want to do, but as for the practice I do not have the physical ability to carry out these jobs, so I must necessarily go to a professional.

In this first part I will show you what has been this remodeling process to achieve my dream kitchen or at least a decent one within the reach of my possibilities, also the need made me start with the laundry room because with the rainy season it was filling up with water.

When I made the extension of the laundry room I did not have how to lay the floor and place it at the same level of the rest of the apartment. So when it rained, the little plate that was made for me leaked and all that was filled with about six centimeters of water, what worried me was that in that space was placed the refrigerator and when we came home from work the fridge was swimming in water and we had to run to unplug it, it was a real danger.

In this first part I will show you how we made the floor, removed the filtration and placed electricity points in that area. The floor measures approximately five square meters, the mason filled the floor a little in order to use less cement, he already had a rustic floor underneath which is the slab of the building as such.

But to my logic, initially the mason had to knock down the piece of wall that was left over, open up the space and then empty a single floor, taking into account that he had to move a point of electricity from the floor to the wall.

On the contrary, the mason, even with my request, poured the floor and then did not want to knock down the wall, and when I insisted that he should remove the wall because I required it, he told me that he would do it the next day.

Meanwhile I was under a lot of stress, knowing that I had in the dining room all the "perolero" that was in that area with no place to put it. Then he came and knocked down the wall, moved the electrical point and finished the missing details until the cement ran out.

The mason made a wooden structure, poured a layer of cement and nailed it to the window. In my logic I understand that if it does not have an internal metal structure when I remove the wood it will come to the ground and the leak will continue, However, the mason is him, so he told me, I asked him to pour a layer of cement on the plate to seal the leak and that when it rains it does not get wet. I still don't know if it will work because the wood hasn't been removed yet and it hasn't rained.

In this work was spent a sack of cement, the necessary sand (less than half a meter) electricity pipe, an electricity curve, teipe, wooden boards, cable number 10, two plastic boxes and two outlets, steel nails and a charge of $ 40, the work was not completed for lack of cement, so I hope the next installment of my Power Up to continue buying what I require for this and other details.

As for the budget, the sand cost me 5 $, the cement 5 $, between the curve, the nails and the rest I spent 10 $ more, the boards and the piece of pipe I already had, a total budget of 60 $, not concluded, it seems expensive to me.

As for the final result, the floor was not completely leveled and you can see the ties, which was exactly what I didn't want, now we need rain to see if the filtration was fixed and to buy cement and stucco to finish this work.

Thank you for reading my publication, I will continue documenting these works, see you soon, until next weekend.

Hola Jerson, si gaste 40 $ en mano de obra 20$, fueron 60$ en total, un piso de 5 mts cuadrados y una filtración, las conecciones de electricidad me las hizo mi hermano y aunque no los terminó, no me costó nada.

Los power down ayudan mucho.
