Lentil Soup with Smoked Bones (Eng/Esp)

English version

Today I made a delicious lentil soup with smoked bones; I wanted to enjoy a hot soup that would soothe both my stomach and my spirit. We’ve been going through a lot emotionally these past few days, and cooking is an excellent form of therapy—for me, it’s a very relaxing activity.

  • 1 large Chinese taro
  • 2 pieces of cassava

Procedure:

I soaked the beans overnight to ensure they softened more quickly.

I washed the vegetables and peeled them before cutting them into medium-sized pieces. I took special care with the Chinese taro so it wouldn’t make my hands itch; to do this, I wore a plastic bag on my hands as protection. I also rubbed a little oil on my arms. When handling Chinese taro, you shouldn’t touch your face or body with your hands, as it will cause itching; that’s why you have to wash them very well before moving on to the next step in the preparation.

I didn’t peel the squash so it wouldn’t fall apart while boiling; this way, it would remain intact like the rest of the vegetables.

I poured two liters of water into a pot and added the cassava pieces. I also washed and added the smoked bones along with a tablespoon of salt. When the cassava softened, I added the beans, let them cook for twenty minutes, and then added the rest of the vegetables.

The next step was to adjust the salt and add the seasonings, which gave the soup a delicious flavor. This time, I wanted a mild broth, so this amount of water was perfect for achieving my goal.

Finally, I turned off the heat, let it rest for a while, and served myself. The soup turned out delicious; I loved the result—it was just what I needed today to delight my palate.

Procedimiento:
