Outfit for my unborn grandson; Part 1: Onesie 👚 and pants 🩳

Quise aprovechar mi poco conocimiento en el área de costura para elaborarle un conjunto de franela, pantalón, gorro y guante utilizando una tela elástica azul marino con detalles en tela blanca; es cierto que hemos comprado ropitas, mantas, todo lo que se compra para bebé, pero siento que las cosas cuando son hechas a mano vienen con mucho más amor, así que, quise elaborar para mí nieto este pequeño y hermoso conjunto, les muestro el paso a paso de su elaboración.

This time, I’d like to share my experience as a first-time grandmother; at 44, I’ll be a grandmother for the first time to a baby boy, who is eagerly awaited by the whole family—and, of course, deeply loved😘
I wanted to put my limited sewing skills to use to make him a flannel outfit—including pants, a hat, and mittens—using navy blue stretch fabric with white fabric accents; It’s true that we’ve bought clothes, blankets, and everything else you buy for a baby, but I feel that handmade items are made with so much more love, so I wanted to make this little, beautiful outfit for my grandson. Here’s a step-by-step guide to how I made it.

Para hacer el pantaloncito, lo primero que hice fue utilizar uno que habíamos comprado para la medida, la talla de 0 a 3 meses o recién nacido, marcamos en la tela, cortamos dos piezas del mismo tamaño, luego se estiran y se unen por la parte superior; seguidamente se dobla de manera que la costura quede en el centro en el frente y en la parte trasera y así se forman las piernas, se pasa costura, y se unen con zig zag.
To make the little pants, the first thing I did was use a pair we’d bought as a template—size 0 to 3 months or newborn. We marked the fabric, cut out two pieces of the same size, then stretched them and sewed them together at the top; Next, fold the fabric so that the seam is centered on the front and back, forming the legs. Sew along the seam, and secure the edges with a zigzag stitch.
Finalmente pegamos la elástica en la parte superior y, utilizando unos trozos de tela blanco hice unos detalles en la parte inferior de cada una de las piernas del pantaloncito.
Finally, we sewed the elastic onto the top, and, using some pieces of white fabric, I added some trim to the bottom of each leg of the shorts.
Para la franela, la coloqué sobre la tela, corté ambas partes trasera y delantera; corté también las mangas, seguí a la máquina a unir primeramente por la parte de los hombros ambas piezas, luego la manga con la franela abierta todavía, una vez que hube pegado las mangas se cierra por los lados.
Luego procedí a utilizar la misms tela blanca que utilicé para el mono, con ella hice la parte de los puños en la parte inferior de cada manga y el cuello; para finalizar la franela hice un dobladillo en la parte inferior.
For the flannel, I placed it on top of the fabric, cut out both the back and front pieces; I also cut out the sleeves, then used the sewing machine to first sew the two pieces together at the shoulders, then the sleeves while the flannel was still open. Once I had sewn the sleeves on, I closed it up along the sides.
Then I used the same white fabric I used for the onesie to make the cuffs at the bottom of each sleeve and the collar; to finish the flannel shirt, I sewed a hem along the bottom edge.
Así quedó listo este hermoso conjunto que hice para mi nieto que está por nacer, falta por supuesto los guantes y el gorro para que esté completo; lo cual les compartiré en una próxima publicación.
