Most leaders wouldn't want to change a bad tradition or rule, unless ofcourse it affected them. This wasn't the case of King Kuzi.
Granny always loved telling us stories, and we enjoyed sitting at her feet's to listen. She told the best and most interesting stories. We wouldn't even miss an evening without listening to her. The most interesting was the redemption of the twins.

The village of Yakuzu, had an age long tradition that saw the birth of twins as an abomination. These babies and their mothers where banished from the kingdom as they were regarded as a curse and ill luck to their families and the kingdom. This tradition was on over years and passed on through generations.
King Kuzi was one of the best kings in over 30 years but he was faced with the trouble of childlessness. He loved his wife so much that he kicked against having a second wife. Luck shone on them when the gods finally visited and his queen took in. Things were going pretty well until her expected date of delivery was getting close, she began experiencing severe pains and and as normal the services of specialized mid wifes were hired. Everything was successful as the queen put to birth a set of bouncing babies - twin females, this made her immediately pass out as she thought her end was near. The midwife on duty immediately sneaked off to inform the King. He couldn't believe the taboo of his village fell o him as he cried, hi
'What did I do to deserve such from the gods, why have they chosen to punish me after waiting years to hold my own children now this"?
He decided to act swiftly before the village would know what was going on. The midwife was asked to travel to a far country sailing several seas with one of the twin. She was given loads of money to take of the child and to allow the child return home at her 20th birthday which she immediately agreed. She wasn't married as at the time and she didn't like the law against twins, 'but my Lord she said, this is time for you to do something essential in revoking these laws, women do not chose whom they birth, it is only nature and twins are a blessing not a curse', on saying this she made a promise to return to the king after 20 years with his child. The Queen cried for days in the secret of her chambers over her child as she learnt about what the King had done. She was most grateful for his act of wisdom but pleaded with him to revoke the ill tradition against twins but he needed 20 years to know if his family would birth ill luck. Well, this wasn't the same as his kingdom blossomed in peace and wealth. His family likewise as his wife also birthed 2 other sons in different years. His children all excelled but he looked forward to the return of his hidden child. He would always pray for her and offer sacrifices to the gods for her safety.
At night, the midwife returned to the kingdom with the child whom was now a beautiful young woman just like her mother and sister. On setting eyes on her both father and mother knew it was their child as she had an identical resemblance with the child that was left behind. The girl was happy to be reunited with her family as the midwife had told her about the story of her birth. The following day, the King met with his people at the market square.
"You do not understand what people face unless you have walked a mile in their shoes, Being a member of the royal house, I was one to ensure that the law against twins was adhered to, until 20 years ago, it came to my doorstep but I couldn't afford to loose my wife I love so much and my children hence I sent one away. But in this 20 years this village has witnessed continuous growth, peace and development. Children are gifts from the gods and do not bring ill luck to their parents no matter the number, hence from this day, the law against twin children is here by abolished"
This met with lots of cheering and jeering by the crowd to the surprise of the king and the people were all.

Well told, @yhuddee111. There is a moral, but you don't moralize. You allow the king to express the moral of the story and that fits perfectly. Also, great use of the prompt, and a strong story arc. These are sympathetic characters and the story holds the reader's interest.

Thank you for sharing this story with us. We appreciate that you engage with other authors.
