Contigo en la Distancia - César Portillo de la Luz (Cover) [ENG/SPA]

No sé qué música escuchen nuestros nietos y futuras generaciones. Cada vez nos asombramos por las cosas que escuchan nuestros hijos. Algunos géneros llegaron para quedarse para la eternidad, otros se desvanecen con el tiempo. Uno de esos géneros que han dejado una huella imborrable y se niega a morir es el Bolero. Hoy les traigo mi interpretación con la trompeta de un Clásico titulado «Contigo en la distancia», compuesto por el guitarrista y cantautor cubano César Portillo de la Luz. Desde niño he tenido la oportunidad de escuchar y corear esta canción romántica en las voces de grandes artistas, entre los cuales se encuentran Andrea Bocelli, Cheo Feliciano, Luis Miguel, Christina Aguilera, Plácido Domingo, y Susana Zabaleta. La canción nos habla de los sentimientos que pueden surgir por la persona que se ama, esa conexión emocional inquebrantable que ni siquiera las fronteras creadas por los seres humanos puede traspasar.

I don't know what music our grandchildren and future generations listen to. Each time we are amazed by the things our children hear. Some genres are here to stay forever, others fade over time. One of those genres that have left an indelible mark and refuse to die is Bolero. Today I bring you my interpretation with the trumpet of a Classical titled «With you in the distance», composed by the Cuban guitarist and singer-songwriter César Portillo de la Luz. Since I was a child I have had the opportunity to listen to and sing this romantic song in the voices of great artists, including Andrea Bocelli, Cheo Feliciano, Luis Miguel, Christina Aguilera, Plácido Domingo, and Susana Zabaleta. The song tells us about the feelings that can arise for the person you love, that unbreakable emotional connection that not even the borders created by human beings can cross.

Un género musical nace de la confluencia de culturas y tradiciones. Lo que me encanta de la música venezolana es que una mezcla mágica de varias culturas, como la de los aborígenes de nuestra América, el canto y el sonido de los tambores de África, y las tradiciones europeas. Otras combinaciones que me parecen interesantes es la influencia árabe, la cultura angla, el rock y su diversidad de subgéneros. A la hora de crear, y de hacer cosas nuevas, uno debe abandonar patrones y tradiciones heredadas, pero también puede incluir diferentes sonidos, estilos y culturas para crear algo nuevo. La música no nace de la nada, aunque puede verse como algo espontáneo. Un edificio se construye con diferentes materiales y técnicas. Yo creo que hasta el hombre primitivo construyó en lo que escuchaba de los pájaros, en el sonido del agua, del trueno y de todo lo que le rodea. Necesitamos construir peldaños para una música de calidad, que inspire a todos a crear, y no destruir, que nos eleve y nos haga mejores personas.

A musical genre is born from the confluence of cultures and traditions. What I love about Venezuelan music is that it is a magical mixture of various cultures, such as that of the aborigines of America, the singing and the sound of drums from Africa, and European traditions. Other combinations that I find interesting are the Arab influence, the Anglo culture, rock, and its diversity of subgenres. When it comes to creating, and doing new things, one must abandon inherited patterns and traditions, but can also include different sounds, styles, and cultures to create something new. Music is not born out of anywhere, although it can be seen as something spontaneous. A building is built with different materials and techniques. I believe that even primitive man built on what he heard from the birds, on the sound of water, thunder, and everything that surrounds him. We need to build stepping stones for quality music, that inspires everyone to create, not destroy, that lifts us and makes us better people.
