[ESP-ING] Resilient Venezuela

Hoy tengo las letras y pensamientos nublados, desde ayer en Venezuela estamos viviendo una terrible situación después del terremoto de magnitud de 7.1 y otro de 7.5 ocurridos uno tras el otro, la verdad nunca habia vivido algo así, dicen que el último terremoto fue menor escala que el que acaba de pasar y que sólo duró como 39 segundos para acabar con edificios grandes de diversas zonas del país.

Admiro a países como Japón, México, entre otros, que han sido sacudidos por varios terremotos y se han podido levantar nuevamente, y no digo que no podramos hacerlo, Venezuela es un país de gente resilente, el problema es que nuestro país está tan fracturado que las ayudas en cuanto a los funcionarios han tardado un poco por la poca cantidad de los mismos y los recursos con los que se cuentan en cuanto a las dotaciones para rescates, no existen, es increible ver como un país no cuenta con las dotaciones necesarias para estos momentos.

Quizás se pudieron salvar muchas más vidas, aún hay gente bajo los escombros, la ayuda internacional viene en camino ojalá y se puedan salvar muchas vidas, pero también es triste ver como muchas personas se quedaron sin hogar, sin un techo, otros sin familia, hay mucha tristeza y miedo en el ambiente, las calles se sienten tristes.

Pero también se puede ver que hay soludaridad entre las personas, una mano amiga, personas ayudando con medicina, ropa, alimentos, eso es lo que verdaderamente debemos reflejar en esta situación tan desastroza que estamos viviendo, pero hay otros tan de mal corazón, que no tienen humanidad, que han comenzado a saquear, a robar las viviendas que han sufrido, establecimientos, esas personas y Dios me perdone son las que debieron estar bajo los escombros, pero no soy Dios ni prete do serlo, ojalá y tomen conciencia y no dañen más de lo que ya el país está.

Hoy muchos duermen en las calles, muchos lloran por el mañana y la pérdida humana, no sabemos lls ricos que somos cuando falta lo verdaderamente importante, la familia, un techo, la salud y el alimento, eso es lo que de verdad necesitamos, lo demás es añadidura, oremos por Venezuela, oren por nosotros, hoy más que nunca necwsitamos esa solidaridad.

Today my thoughts and words are clouded. Since yesterday, we in Venezuela have been going through a terrible situation following two earthquakes—one measuring 7.1 and another 7.5—that struck one after the other. To be honest, I’ve never experienced anything like this before. They say the last earthquake was smaller in scale than the one that just happened and lasted only about 39 seconds, yet it destroyed large buildings in various parts of the country.

I admire countries like Japan and Mexico, among others, that have been shaken by multiple earthquakes and have managed to get back on their feet, and I’m not saying we can’t do the same—Venezuela is a country of resilient people. The problem is that our country is so fractured that aid from government officials has been slow to arrive due to their limited numbers, and the resources needed for rescue operations simply don’t exist. It’s unbelievable to see how a country lacks the necessary resources for times like these.

Perhaps many more lives could have been saved; there are still people trapped under the rubble. International aid is on its way—hopefully many lives can be saved—but it’s also sad to see how many people have been left homeless, without a roof over their heads, and others without their families. There is a lot of sadness and fear in the air; the streets feel somber.

But you can also see that there is solidarity among people—a helping hand, people providing medicine, clothing, and food. That is what we must truly embody in this disastrous situation we are facing, but there are others with such evil hearts—who lack humanity—who have begun looting and stealing from the homes and businesses that have suffered. Those people—and may God forgive me—are the ones who should have been buried under the rubble. But I am not God, nor do I claim to be. I hope they come to their senses and do not cause any more damage than the country has already suffered.

Today, many are sleeping on the streets; many are weeping for tomorrow and for the loss of life. We don’t realize how “rich” we are until what truly matters is missing: family, a roof over our heads, health, and food—that is what we truly need; everything else is secondary. Let us pray for Venezuela; pray for us. Today, more than ever, we need that solidarity.
