La semana pasada fue bastante divertida en casa, mi hijo y yo estuvimos haciéndonos compañía mientras los demás miembros del hogar pasaban una temporada fuera. Así que aprovechamos de hacer muchas actividades físicas, deportivas y demás, durante la semana. La espera estaba centrada para el fin de semana porque habíamos escuchado que el zoológico se había vuelto a reactivar y tenía varios visitantes nuevos.

Así que nos alistamos y salimos rumbo al parque "Bararida", zoológico de la ciudad de Barquisimeto.

Last week was quite fun at home, my son and I were keeping each other company while the other members of the household spent some time away from home. So we took advantage of doing lots of physical activities, sports and so on, during the week. The wait was on for the weekend because we had heard that the zoo had been reactivated and had several new visitors.

So we got ready and headed for the "Bararida" park, the zoo in the city of Barquisimeto.

Realmente las instalaciones estaban bastante renovadas, mucha gente se dio cita para pasear, compartir con amigos y familiares. Jeremías desde su llegada no paro de correr y querer recorrer todos los parejes sin escatimar cualquier gasto de energía. El hecho de haber tantas personas, el espacio abierto y todo lo que implicaba, no permitió que pudiera tomarme el tiempo necesario para tomar mas fotografías de las que fuese querido.

Sin embargo, pude realizar unas cuantas tomas con las que quedé satisfecho.

The facilities were really quite renovated, many people gathered to walk around, share with friends and family. Jeremiah from his arrival did not stop running and wanted to go through all the couples without sparing any expenditure of energy. The fact that there were so many people, the open space and all that it implied, did not allow me to take the necessary time to take more pictures than I wanted to.

However, I was able to take a few shots with which I was satisfied.

Había una gran variedad de aves, muchas de estas me llaman la atención, especialmente las mas grandes y de vuelos a varios metros de altura, esas que pueden subir, surcar los cielos y coger cualquier rumbo sin la necesidad de algún mapa. También pasamos por las aves pequeñas y de colores bastante frescos, vivos.

There was a great variety of birds, many of them attracted my attention, especially the larger ones with flights several meters high, those that can climb, soar through the skies and take any direction without the need of a map. We also passed by the small birds with quite fresh, vivid colors.

También vimos un mamífero, quizás miembro de las familia de los marsupiales, no todos tenían sus letreros. Es quizás una de las críticas constructivas que se puede hacer a las autoridades para que señalen debidamente el nombre de la especie. En otros tiempo recuerdo los carteles que mostraban algunas características especiales y demás, ahora mismo muy poco se observan esos letreros.

We also saw a mammal, perhaps a member of the marsupial family, but not all of them had their signs. It is perhaps one of the constructive criticisms that can be made to the authorities so that they properly indicate the name of the species. In other times I remember the signs that showed some special characteristics and so on, nowadays very few of those signs are observed.

Una de las cosas mas importantes del zoológico es que han logrado ser participe en el crecimiento de los manatíes como especie. Recordar que están en peligro de extinción. La vez anterior que estuve allá solo había uno, luego trajeron a la hembra y ahora tienen 5 dentro de la piscina. Lo único es que no se dejan ver mucho, se mantienen la mayoría del tiempo por debajo del agua. Es decir, ese que aparece ahí es alguien que le está dando alimentos, no es la atracción :)

One of the most important things about the zoo is that they have been able to participate in the growth of the manatees as a species. Remember that they are in danger of extinction. The last time I was there there was only one, then they brought the female and now they have 5 in the pool. The only thing is that they don't let themselves be seen much, they stay most of the time underwater. That is, the one that appears there is someone who is feeding it, it is not the attraction :)

En el fondo es algo triste ver todas estas especies en cautiverio, pues pienso que deberían estar todas y cada una en su habita natural. Lamentablemente el crecimiento poblacional, la construcción indiscriminada de nuevas ciudades apuntan a que en un futuro no muy lejano estas especies puedan ser vistas solo en este tipo de escenarios. ¡Ojala me equivoque!

It is really sad to see all these species in captivity, because I think that each and every one of them should be in their natural habitat. Unfortunately the population growth, the indiscriminate construction of new cities point to the fact that in the not too distant future these species can only be seen in this type of scenarios. I hope I'm wrong!
