Building The Septic Tank
The year 2024 begins and with it continues the hard work in the construction of my house, as I have already mentioned in previous publications, the area where this structure is being built is an area integrated to the city, but that currently does not have good connection to public services, because these lands were originally used as pastures for livestock activity, This is how all of us who began to build there face complex challenges, where for example we have to solve problems such as the issue of sewage, since there are no aqueducts that connect the area with the public network of the city and we have to opt for the typical solution of building septic tanks.

Construyendo el Pozo Séptico
Comienza el año 2024 y con él continúa el trabajo duro en la construcción de mi casa, como ya he comentado en publicaciones anteriores la zona en donde se está levantando esta estructura es un área integrada a la ciudad, pero que en la actualidad no cuenta con buena conexión a los servicios públicos, debido a que estas tierras eran originalmente usadas como potreros para la actividad ganadera, es de esta forma como todos los que comenzamos a construir allí nos enfrentamos a retos bastante complejos, en donde por ejemplo nos toca solucionar problemas tales como el asunto de las aguas servidas, ya que al no existir acueductos que unan la zona con la red pública de la ciudad toca optar por la típica solución de la construcción de pozos sépticos.

For the construction of this type of structures I was investigating for months, since I discovered that there are many ways to do it, I was surprised to see how you can use rubber, plastic containers, blocks and many other elements, but to tell the truth despite being surprised by the novelty in the construction methods my personal reality forced me to stick to a project that would not consume much budget, but at the same time would guarantee a good performance and durability over time, where low maintenance and an aesthetically pleasing result to the eye was required.
Para la construcción de este tipo de estructuras estuve investigando durante meses, ya que descubrí que existen muchísimas formas de hacerlo, me sorprendió ver cómo se pueden utilizar cauchos, recipientes de plástico, bloques y muchos otros elementos, pero a decir verdad a pesar de sorprenderme por la novedad en los métodos de construcción mi realidad personal me obligaba a pegarme a un proyecto que no consumiera mucho presupuesto, pero que al mismo tiempo me garantizara un buen funcionamiento y la garantía de durabilidad a través del tiempo, en donde se requiriera un bajo mantenimiento y un resultado estéticamente agradable a la vista.
It is in this way as observing many options and at the same time consulting the experiences of my neighbors I managed to determine that the best technique to carry out the construction of the septic tank would be through stones and cement, which economically would have a fairly low cost compared to other techniques, This is because a few meters from my house I have a mine where they extract the ideal rocks for this type of structure and the cement despite being a little expensive is also easily accessible and the distance between the hardware store and the house is actually quite short, which considerably lowers the cost of all freight.
Es de esta forma como observando muchísimas opciones y al mismo tiempo consultando las experiencias de mis vecinos logré determinar que la mejor técnica para llevar a cabo la construcción del pozo séptico sería a través de piedras y cemento, lo cual económicamente tendría un costo bastante bajo en comparación con otras técnicas, ya que a pocos metros de mi casa cuento con una mina de donde extraen las rocas ideales para este tipo de estructuras y el cemento a pesar de ser un poco costoso también es de fácil acceso y la distancia entre la ferretería de la casa en realidad es bastante corto, lo cual abarata considerablemente el costo de todos los fletes.

To tell the truth, we opted for a round well model in the shape of an inverted cone, where you start with a narrower lower part and as you get to the surface you start pouring, the depth of the well would be 2.5 meters and all the walls would be covered by rocks, leaving only a small circle of earth in the lower area which according to what they explained to me would serve to filter the water.

A decir verdad, optamos por un modelo de pozo Redondo en forma de cono invertido, en donde se empieza, por una parte, inferior más angosta y a medida que se va llegando a la superficie se van echando, la profundidad del mismo sería de 2.5 metros y en su totalidad todas las paredes estaría recubierto por rocas, dejando solo un pequeño círculo de tierra en el área inferior el cual según lo que me explicaron serviría para filtrar el agua.
The biggest concern in this work was the type of soil that we would face, since at first glance it seemed to be swampy and slow absorption, but as we were digging we realized that it was quite the opposite, it is a land that usually contains small rocks and at the same time absorbs water quite fast, I believe that the greatest difficulties were presented to us at the beginning of the work, since the excavation would have to face a scorching sun and a temperature that can easily exceed 35 degrees Celsius.
La mayor preocupación en esta obra era el tipo de suelo al cual nos enfrentaríamos, ya que a primera vista pareciera ser pantanoso y de absorción lenta, Pero a medida que fuimos excavando nos dimos cuenta de que se trataba de todo lo contrario, es una tierra que suele contener pequeñas rocas y al mismo tiempo absorbe bastante rápido el agua, lo cual es ideal y gracias a Este descubrimiento es que las medidas iniciales del pozo fueron ratificadas, ya que teniendo en cuenta que esta será una casa para un par de personas entonces no haría falta una estructura tan grande, creo que las mayores dificultades se nos presentaron al inicio de la obra, ya que la excavación tendría que enfrentarse a un sol abrasador y una temperatura que fácilmente puede superar los 35 grados.
Little by little the construction work was flowing faster and faster, I think that the practice of the workers helped a lot to speed up all this work, originally I thought that we would only make the well and the connection of the pipe to it, but they told me to place outside the house where the sewage pipe would lead to an emergency locker, which would have two functions, The first would be that in case the pipe was destroyed, this locker could be used as an intermediate point to introduce a Guaya or any other element to help unclog the pipe and secondly it would also serve as a starting point to divert the entire network of sewage from the house to the street at the time they eventually placed the aqueduct corresponding to the public sewage service.
Poco a poco los trabajos de construcción fueron fluyendo cada vez más rápido, creo que la práctica de los obreros ayudó mucho a agilizar toda esta labor, originalmente pensé que solo realizaríamos el pozo y la conexión del tubo hacia él, pero ellos me indicaron colocar fuera de la casa en donde desembocaría la tubería de aguas negras una taquilla de emergencia, la cual tendría dos funciones, la primera sería que en caso de verse destruida la tubería se pudiera usar esta taquilla como punto intermedio para introducir una Guaya o cualquier otro elemento que ayude a destapar el tubo y en segundo lugar también serviría como punto de partida para desviar toda la red de aguas servidas de la casa hacia la calle en el momento en que eventualmente colocaran el acueducto correspondiente al servicio público de aguas negras.
Once the work on both the well and the locker was completed, it was necessary to place their corresponding covers, but for them I did have a previously established plan, as for the well I decided to make a concrete cover poured right there over the hole, while the other half would be a movable cover, which could be removed in case of an emergency, I would undoubtedly be thinking about the future and at the same time saving me a lot of time and material in case of any contingency, as for the locker obviously also has a movable concrete cover, which is smaller and much easier to manipulate, I think that over time both will be covered with a small layer of earth, which will conceal them and at the same time will make them aesthetically unnoticed.
Una vez culminados los trabajos tanto del pozo como de la taquilla era necesario colocarle sus correspondientes tapas, pero para ellos yo sí tenía un plan ya previamente establecido, en cuanto al pozo decidí que se realizara una tapa de cemento vaciada allí mismo sobre el agujero, mientras que la otra mitad sería una tapa movible, la cual pudiera ser retirada en caso de presentarse alguna emergencia, con lo cual sin duda alguna estaría pensando en el futuro y al mismo tiempo ahorrándome mucho tiempo y material en el caso de que se presente alguna contingencia, en cuanto a la taquilla obviamente también lleva una tapa de concreto movible, la cual es más pequeña y mucho más fácil de manipular, creo que con el tiempo ambas van a ser cubiertas con una pequeña capa de tierra, la cual las va a disimular y al mismo tiempo harán que estéticamente pasen desapercibidas.
This work was undoubtedly guided by the experience of both the workers and those neighbors around me, I decided to opt for the option of the rocks, as these guarantee me longer life and greater strength, I also accepted the placement of the emergency locker, as with this I may find myself in an advantageous situation before the future that awaits me, This is how, listening and thinking things through, today I can say that the work is completely finished, the results were successful and the functionality of the well has already been approved, with which I can only feel proud for having achieved a super important and essential point for the habitability of my future home.
Este trabajo sin duda alguna fue guiado por la experiencia tanto de los trabajadores como de aquellos vecinos que me rodean, decidí optar por la opción de las rocas, ya que estas me garantizan más tiempo de vida útil y mayor solidez, también acepté la colocación de la taquilla de emergencia, ya que con esto quizás me encuentre en una situación ventajosa ante el futuro que me espera, es así como escuchando y pensando las cosas detenidamente Hoy puedo decir que el trabajo se encuentra totalmente terminado, los resultados fueron exitosos y la funcionalidad del pozo ya ha sido aprobada, con lo cual Solo me queda sentirme orgulloso por haber concretado un punto superimportante y esencial para la habitabilidad de mi futuro hogar.
