Repairing The Doors
Little by little the construction process of my house continues advancing in an unstoppable way, in spite of being in the final stretch there are still many details that must be taken care of and which take a lot of time and dedication. The main structure of the house is almost finished, but the internal decoration is still an area that has a significant lag, it is for this reason that I decided to place the doors of each room, all this with the idea of generating a greater spirit of habitability and at the same time go seeing the shape of home to this space that at the moment remains cold and empty.

Reparando Las Puertas
Poco a poco el proceso constructivo de mi casa sigue avanzando de forma indetenible, a pesar de encontrarnos en la recta final aún quedan muchos detalles que deben ser atendidos y los cuales se llevan mucho tiempo y dedicación. La estructura principal de la casa se encuentra prácticamente terminada, pero la decoración interna sigue siendo un área que cuenta con un importante rezago, es por esta razón que tomé la decisión de ir colocando las puertas de cada habitación, todo esto con la idea de generar un mayor espíritu de habitabilidad y al mismo tiempo irle viendo la forma de hogar a este espacio que por los momentos se mantiene frío y vacío.

To tell the truth, the doors are quite an issue, as they were practically donated, but these were higher than the frames, therefore, it was essential to trim them, also the lock holes were designed in an elongated shape and the ones I have are knob shaped, which merited a filling and matching work that would allow the use of the locks I had without the need for everything to be visually horrible.
A decir verdad, las puertas son todo un tema, ya que las mismas fueron prácticamente donadas, pero estas eran de mayor altura que los marcos, por lo tanto, era fundamental recortarlas, además los huecos de la cerradura estaban diseñados de forma alargada y las que yo tengo tienen forma de pomo, lo cual ameritaba un trabajo de relleno y emparejamiento que permitiera usar los cerrojos que yo poseía sin necesidad de que todo quedara visualmente horrible.
In view of the size of this job and that I did not have the necessary tools to do it I decided to leave it in the hands of a person who kindly offered to help me, but it turns out that this did not go as I had not planned, as the finishes were simply awful, since I found locks that did not fit, I found with locks that did not fit, holes that jumped out and large openings on each side of the doors, which undoubtedly was a very big aesthetic problem, since leaving it like that visually would not look good and at the same time the inside of these doors would become the perfect nest for any kind of animal that wanted to live there.
En vista de la envergadura de este trabajo y que yo no poseía las herramientas necesarias para hacerlo decidí dejarlo en manos de una persona que gentilmente se ofreció a ayudarme, pero resulta que esto no salió como no tenía planeado, ya que los acabados resultaron sencillamente espantosos, puesto que me encontré con cerraduras que no calzaban, huecos que saltaban a la vista y grandes aberturas por cada lado de las puertas, lo cual sin duda alguna era un problema estético muy grande, ya que de dejarlo así visualmente no se vería bien y al mismo tiempo el interior de estas puertas se convertirían en el nido perfecto para cualquier tipo de animal que quisiera habitar allí.
After spending several days full of anger and helplessness, I decided to take control of my problem and take this job with my own hands, to tell the truth I do not have extensive knowledge of carpentry, but thanks to various tutorials, some consultations and common sense I threw myself into the unknown and I set out to fix my doors, for this I decided to buy about a kilo of professional white glue for wood, I collected several bags of sawdust and used white paper, cardboard, egg cartons, professional paste and white paint.
Después de pasar varios días llenos de rabia e impotencia, decidí tomar el control de mi problema y asumir este trabajo con mis propias manos, a decir verdad no tengo amplios conocimientos de carpintería, pero gracias a diversos tutoriales, algunas consultas y sentido común me lancé hacia lo desconocido y me dispuse a arreglar mis puertas, para ello decidí comprar aproximadamente un kilo de pegamento blanco profesional para madera, recogí varias bolsas de aserrín y usé papel blanco, cartón, cartones de huevo, pasta profesional y pintura blanca.
The biggest problem of the doors was the amount of holes that were all around, that's why I decided to fill each of them with paper and egg carton, to leave them about a couple of centimeters deep, then begin to apply a paste made with white glue and sawdust, the latter using it quite thickly, so as to cover the greatest possible depth and generate greater hardness, after a couple of days of drying a second layer would be applied, but this time with much finer sawdust, which will help me to generate the final finish, again wait a couple of days and finally applied a thin layer of professional paste, which without waiting for it to dry completely would be scraped with a 1000 grit sandpaper, to generate in this way good texture and a straighter finish, after 24 hours would be applied a coat of white paint, which would make continuity in the color and at the same time seal any pore that will remain open, which ensures that the inside of the doors will not be penetrated by any type of animal.
El mayor problema de las puertas era la cantidad de huecos que había por todo su alrededor, es por ello que decidí rellenar cada uno de ellos un papel y cartón de huevo, hasta dejarlos aproximadamente de un par de centímetros de profundidad, luego comenzaría a aplicar un engrudo elaborado con pegamento blanco y aserrín, este último usándolo de manera bastante gruesa, para de esa forma abarcar la mayor profundidad posible y generar mayor dureza, luego de un par de días de secado se aplicaría una segunda capa, pero esta vez con aserrín mucho más fino, lo cual me ayudará a ir generando el acabado final, se volvió a esperar un par de días y por último se aplicó una fina capa de pasta profesional, la cual sin esperar que se seque por completo sería raspada con una lija de grano 1000, para generar de esta forma buena textura y un acabado más recto, después de 24 horas se aplicaría una capa de pintura blanca, lo cual te haría continuidad en el color y al mismo tiempo sellaría cualquier poro que quedará abierto, con lo cual se garantiza que el interior de las puertas no será penetrado por ningún tipo de animal.
It is the first time that I carry out this type of work and I am aware that the final result may not be that of a professional, but little by little I am learning from my mistakes and I am sure that in a next opportunity I will make better use of each element and take more advantage of the materials I have available. But for now the work turned out to be super satisfactory, as it allowed me to install the four doors and generate an aesthetic sense of continuity that is pleasing to the eye, some small details will be repaired over time, but the important thing is that the biggest problem is solved and both the doors and their locks are fully functional.
Es la primera vez que llevo a cabo este tipo de trabajos y estoy consciente de que el resultado final tal vez no es el de un profesional, pero poco a poco voy aprendiendo de mis errores y estoy seguro de que en una próxima oportunidad utilizaré mejor cada elemento y aprovecharé más los materiales que tengo disponibles. Pero por ahora el trabajo resultó ser supersatisfactorio, ya que me permitió instalar las cuatro puertas y generar un sentido estético de continuidad que es agradable a la vista, algunos pequeños detallitos serán reparados a lo largo del tiempo, pero lo importante de todo esto es que el mayor problema está solucionado y tanto las puertas como sus cerrojos se encuentran plenamente funcionales.
Sometimes you have to take the reins of this type of work yourself, because when you leave it in the hands of someone else you don't always get the expected results and the worst thing is that you lose resources and time, which in this time of the year is very valuable. The technique of sawdust with glue seemed fantastic to me, since it allows to generate a mass that when drying is extremely hard, dense and quite even, which can be easily molded with sandpaper, and is porous enough to serve as support for a layer of professional paste, I must confess that with it I also covered several holes in the wall and it was much better compared to white cement, this is how I discovered a new way of doing things and from now on I am sure that from now on I can solve many problems related to wood.
A veces uno mismo debe tomar las riendas de este tipo de trabajos, ya que cuando se dejan en manos de otra persona no siempre se obtienen los resultados esperados y lo peor de todo es que perdemos recursos y tiempo, lo cual en esta época resulta ser muy valioso. La técnica del aserrín con pega me pareció fantástica, ya que permite generar una masa que al secarse es sumamente dura, densa y bastante pareja, la cual puede ser fácilmente moldeada con lija, y resulta lo suficientemente porosa como para servir de soporte a una capa de pasta profesional, debo confesarles que con ella también cubrí varios huequitos en la pared y me resultó mucho mejor en comparación con el cemento blanco, es de esta forma como descubrí una nueva manera de hacer las cosas y de ahora en adelante estoy seguro de que muchos problemas relacionados con la madera yo los podré solucionar.
