The demands keep increasing...

I got an email a few days ago from an Internship I can't even remember applying for. It was an invitation to take a practice test with some rules that were so crazy I didn't even bother reading it to the end.

They not only asked for a design of a Case study with some parameters and features, but they also asked that it be developed with CSS, HTML and JavaScript, and finally hosted on Netlify within 2-3 weeks.

I thought it was crazy and then I went over to Twitter and saw many people posting the same image and talking about how outrageous the demands were. What I found even crazier was the comments of people who said they worked for the company and that their pay was worthless with all their many demands. And they had these many demands for a free Internship.

This is one of many outrageous demands I've come across over the past few months since I began my search for a design gig. Many people no longer simply need a Product Designer, they also need a Front-end developer. They want two people for the price of one so they pile up these demands and make people no longer have lives because they need money.

I know the industry wasn't this bad 2 years ago but in recent times, with the wave of unemployment going around, employers have begun to make more demands with the goal of paying pennies just because people need these jobs.

Twitter and Facebook have rendered thousands of highly sought-after employees unemployed in only a matter of days and it only makes me wonder what my fate would be in the labour market if these kinds of individuals are back searching for jobs as well.

The demands will just keep on increasing and it scares me. Will I ever be able to meet up with the ever-demanding market? How long do I have to keep learning before I get just one chance to show what I can do?

I would guess that a lot more startups are going to resurface in the next coming months as laid-off staff begin to put their heads together to become employers and no more employees. How well are startups going to fare in this current global economy?

I've had so many questions on my mind over the past few days and I guess my only solution is to keep trying. My other option is to settle for a job I'll hate that'll be paying me just enough to eat without actually living and I don't want that for myself. I want to have a life with a mixture of challenge and fun.

I'll keep trying and doing the best I can until I can't do anything anymore.
