What the papers don't see.

Gone are the days when someone will pass an exam and be screaming like someone who won the lottery “Well,” I was once like that, you would see my shoulders rising high like a high fence that is yet to be placed in order. Then when I got to the house and showed my mother the result, she would scream more than I screamed earlier. Hearing her voice loud like that would increase the level of my pride and my shoulders would refuse to go down.

Glad my shoulders came down a little though, then my mum would call me a nickname that I loved “smart girl” That name scattered my head like I would feel it falling down my neck. As I grew older I became a bit convinced that I was an intelligent person without anyone telling me. I know myself to be an intelligent person but then I had a friend whom I knew was more intelligent than I am.

My friend and I would read together, because we were in the same faculty but not in the same department despite being in different departments I knew a little bit about the courses she was offering at that time because most of the time we would read and then exchange our textbooks and the things we've jotted down inside a rough booklet.

Then we would conduct a mock exam for ourselves just to test how far we've studied to know if we can actually pen things down imagine being in an exam condition. So during those moments my friend would get every single thing correct, and then I would be like “Omo you are fire”. While mine at the other hand was just following suit also doing a bit well.

After all those moments of studying had come to an end and it was time to go and put those things in our heads down into the papers “we would do that like soldiers” when we finished conquering in the exam hall and it was time for the result to be uploaded. On hearing the news of our result “which at first will come like a shock” because this tension from nowhere would step in and we will be like “let's say a little prayer”.

My friend failed a particular course which to her was one of the easiest in the exam hall, now imagine failing a course where, when you looked at the exam questions, you were like “it's very easy” then when the results come out, it's showing something out of the extraordinary, in situations like that won't you be forced to question your intelligence?

Currently, I've also questioned my intelligence countless times because certain situations would require you to do that. I've come to the realization that exams do not measure intelligence. Someone can be intelligent and still not perform well in an examination; now does that make the person a dullard?

Exams doesn't mark real life situation example in an exam hall the examiner asks you “What is marketing” but then in a real-life situation you won't be asked to define marketing rather you will be asked to market a product. The application is different from the theory, exams mark just the theory while the real world has to do with the application of the theory.

An exam has two things involved “pass or fail” which students always study to make one and that is to “pass” and after that passing the exam what comes next. The student literally forgets about the exam. A really intelligent person possesses different levels of intelligence “analytical, problem-solving, and creative”.

In conclusion, exams aren't useless but they are just incomplete. Don't just pass an exam and fail in life. Our goal isn't to be the best in an exam hall and be the worst in real life. It takes intelligence to continue being the best in life which exams can't give.
