DIY GARDEN - The next big Garden upgrade! Why I collect construction rubble.

Good day everyone! Zak Ludick here from a sunny Cape Town, South Africa! It is now after Christmas, but that does not mean that my work is at an end!

In fact, I have big plans for my garden and while some people think me crazy for working so hard before and after Christmas, I feel that if a person really wants to achieve something, they will work for it!

I want to expand my veggie garden to epic proportions and part of that goal is building raised garden beds on the sides of the veggie garden area.

Near our home, there is some construction going on and I recently got a whole whack of bricks from there. Then I spied the following:

Concrete pillars. These are the uprights that hold up the walls as seen in the background of the picture above! And I thought to myself: What a waste of good building material.

Initially, I did not even really know what I needed them for, but first I hauled them into my garden and sat down, sweating from the exertion and drinking my Pepsi... an idea formed!

So I cleared up this block that I had designated as a planting area.

@merenludick helped me move all the pots and seeding trays away from this area so I can start putting together my next raised bed!

Lexi decided to first roll around in this patch of dirt.

She got up and sniffed it again...

And down and rolling around she goes!

I fist wet the dirt a bit and placed the first concrete pillar. Not quite enough to reach to the other side... but I will make a plan!

I had 6 pillars and laid down 3 each side. I put some blocks against it to help prop it up a bit initiall. But soon found that these blocks did not want to budge easily!

There were some bits that poked out...

And when you try to fit the bricks in to fit in nicely, they do not come at the right size...

So, let the Hammers Fall!! But first, when using a hammer, remember to put on those safety goggles for the pieces that fly as you strike!

And some good sturdy gloves for the rough stuff!

And so I was able to build the box for my ruised bed. You might think this stuff will break and fall... but I have a way with wedging the stone that you should not underestimate. The 4-pound hammer is not just there to break block to size, but also to drive blocks into places to they hold on the one another!

Below is a further camera-roll:

Lexi still in the garden with me!

Because this is more bricks and stuff, this is a DIY Garden Post. When I start filling it up and possibly plant into it, I shall make a Gardening post!

See you then!

Cheers!
