Garden update - I am still sick but there is so much to do!

Hey everyone. Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa. I am still a bit sick but I am feeling spans better than I did yesterday.

I am starting to putter around in the garden a bit as this is needed to keep things under control.

A lot of my plants are taking a bit of damage from the sun and I need to work some food into the beds where I can see its getting a bit sandy.

There is quite a lot of purslane popping up but that is alright since I will harvest that too. I will just have to thin it out so it does not kill my other plants.

Well... I have a lot of work to do. Let's look at pictures:

I need to clean the greens on the path (or trim) and the grassy stuff in the grow box on the right.

We got new purloins on the pergola outside. We hung some lights on that to give some atmosphere. I did a lot of work tidying the plants in this area.

Left back is what is left of the one vine plant the builders chopped down... but did not kill... its just going to grow back now. Haha.

Some of the longer plants in the path will the trimmed.

These plants need work especially the delicious monster. I think I will make a whole post about that thing.

Garlic shoots going a bit brown... water and heat issues?

The other vine that got chopped down that is busy growing again!

This guy was just a stump in a pot... I started watering it and it now has 4 leaves! I have no idea what it is.

Its going fairly well here. I am keeping the clovers and other ground cover alive to keep the moisture in the ground.

The mints are recovering. Everyone told me this thing would take over everywhere... but the grass here is even more aggressive!

The tree at the back needs to be cleared of suckers. More food for the compost heap.

I still need to relocate this rosemary.

Another tree with suckers to clear.

I might need to pull out the onions in the centre and split them up. One onion's cutting has turned into 3 onions!

Some work to be done here... maybe I should build something for them to stand on? Also my path is not a path anymore...

That vine is popping up across the sand and up against the wall... but this is near the braai so that's not going to work...

Currently I can enjoy Basil, Mint Basil, Onions, Rosemary.

I am not sure how the garlic works...

The lawn needs water and attention!

So yeah, I have a lot of work to do and I shall see how much of my Saturday and Sunday can be dedicated towards getting some of these tasks done. I need to start growing more seedlings and germinating more... I have a lot of Kitchen onions that I need to plant out!

Thank you for reading!

Cheers!

You've got such a wide mix in your garden, that there's no way you could get board.
Get better soon, and have a nice weekend:)

Thank you very much! At least it tends to grow on its own!

That’s what I find too this year. I gave my garden so little attention and it just takes care of itself almost 😉

What I try to do is every day just do one task, even if it is a 5min task. At the end of the week it looks like you worked there for hours but you actually only worked there for a few mins.

Man! That is such a great approach! I should really try this in my garden too 😁 The only problem is that by the time I get home from work it’s already dark outside, so I don’t feel like working in the darkness at this time of a year, but I could at least apply this approach to my indoor garden for the time being 😉

Indeed!

I am guessing that it is getting to winter where you are? I am in the southern hemisphere so I can get home at 7pm and its still light outside! lol

Purslane is very good for my tortoise so I can take it to be a natural mower ha,ha,ha,ha.... I hope you get better and can clean up your garden better before the weeds do their thing. Cheers.

I hope you feel better soon! I love the pergola. Will you grow some kind of vine on it? A passionfruit or grape?

There is a vine growing nearby in the garden but it is not a fruit bearing vine... great idea though...
