Maledictus Terra Book 2: Sanguifex Part 103
Introduction
Welcome back to Maledicturs Terra. This is a Chain Story between myself and @lex-zaiya, meaning that we each write the parts alternatively.

Part 103
Darkness... blackness... nothingness. It was almost peaceful. There was no worry or fear...
... What was there to fear?
I do not really fear dying... I am a warrior. When the blade is drawn, every time it is drawn... there is a possibility of dying... so you cannot be afraid of dying when you are a warrior.
That is what dad said. He had said. So many drills. Training over and over and over and never being good enough. He always hoped that I would fail and somehow my weak brother would come out of nowhere and become a warrior of renown.
But father had been disgusted and ashamed at my bookish brother... imagine father could see him now... what raw power!
I'm not afraid of dying... but what about...
Adrian!
Derric!
"Derric!" Magna yelled and sat bolt upright. It was dark, but not as dark as it had been in her sleep. Had she been asleep? She looked around.
There was a low fire that radiated heat, but she was kept warm by several covers that she had now thrown off. She was still wearing her armor.
She could see the other shapes of the rest of the party some space distant but she was not alone. There were three other shapes.
One of the shapes stirred and looked at her. "That was sudden. But it is good to see that you are awake." Trix's voice was soft and had a note of sorrow to it.
Magna's eye adjusted to the dark and made out enough of one of the bigger shapes near the fire to know that it was her uncle. "How is he?"
"He will live. He is tough and his curse makes him even more durable." Trix said. She indicated to the other sleeping form. "Anna will also recover."
"What about Leo?"
Magna stared through the dark. Even if there had been full sunlight, Bellatrix had a way of shrouding her face. She did not do so now. Worry and sorrow etched her fine features. "Something happened."
"I saw him get clawed. His armor was shredded. Did he die?"
"He might as well have. He is not yet dead. I... actually wish that he had passed swiftly instead of what happened after.
A scream of agony tore through the air and Magna rolled out of her bedrolls and was on her feet before she could think. She ran toward where the sound had come from.
In that direction there was a stabbing coldness.
She approached the rest of the party there was an argument between the six figures that were standing around the two prone and frozen figures who were writhing in their bonds.
Magna stepped straight into the throes of an argument.
"Kill it and be done!"
"You shall not touch him! I will rip your throat out!"
"Please! Please! I can fix him! I can fix both of them!"
"You have done enough! Stay out of it before you cause any more damage!"
"Put him out of his misery! He does not deserve to suffer like this!"
"Do not touch my devout! I shall not allow you to harm him."
As one the six people turned as Magna entered the circle.

A very interesting story where darkness, suspense and action converge very well. It generates curiosity to know what happens in the next part.
