The weekend started with a jol, then I nearly died, then ended at the hobby store.

This weekend was... fair... but I nearly died!

Friday Night

So I usually like to count my weekend starting from the moment I get home on a Friday afternoon. We had plans to go to the Table View Soccer Club for a friend's birthday. Well, it is our friend's dad but we have been to the parent's house for get-togethers as much as their own it seems and thus we know them fairly well.

@clairemobey is always welcome there since she sings and plays guitar and the parents always love hearing her sing.

So we went to this jol, which had a bring-and-braai vibe. They provide fire, we bring meat and salad and there was a cash bar.

Inside they had comfortable seating for the senior people, there were loads of tables and benches, a dance floor and a playpark outside for the kids. There was a fair amount of children and spaces for the teenagers to congregate and "mope". I kid though. Mostly they just hung around chatting.

I do not have any pictures of this evening worth sending. My phone was lagging severely on the pictures and everyone was moving so I won't even bother posting what I have.

I did not drink much at the party. I had an initial drink and then switched over to lots of coca-cola and ate lots of food. I was the designated driver and so, I did not even make an attempt at a second drink. I also avoided the bar area when people were dishing out shooters.

I kept myself at the braai area and even helped other people braai their meat.

Saturday

We got home super late Saturday morning. The kids were exhausted, @clairemobey was exhausted and I needed a good rest as well. I got up early in the morning to post on Hive and then went back to bed till the afternoon. We all had a good rest on a dreary winter's day.

We caught up with some Netflix shows my missus and I was watching together. It was quite awesome... until the "Suppering".

Our teenager @aimeludick made an attempt on my life with her cooking! The deal was, she needed to make supper while we chill out because on Sunday she needed me to drive her here and there for her social stuff.

She was making Chicken strips, stir-fry veggies, and fries.

She showed me that she was going to grille the chicken strips in the oven instead of frying them and I saw how she had spiced them. All seemed well until I smelled the smell. It was the smell of cooking oil.

I blundered into the kitchen and proceeded with something that must have seemed like a scene from a Gordon Ramsay cooking show of me yelling at the chef while trying to rescue what was going on.

No, there was no fire. I caught it on the oil smell.

I initialized ventilation.

The stir-fry was given soy and other stuff and had gotten quite black. Then chips were getting too well fried. Going past the golden-brown phase. Although they did not burn yet.

I could not figure out where the oil vapour was coming from until I opened the oven. The chicken strips that had meant to be grilled were laying neck-deep in oil!

Instead of grilling, these were basically deep frying in the oven! 😱😱😱😱

Firstly, cooking oil has become seriously expensive.

Secondly, this was not going to be a healthy meal. The chicken was also cooked till it was really messed up.

Nobody managed to finish their food but I am stubborn about throwing away food, so I still ate most of mine even though it was not great... indeed it was really oily. I used a lot of sauce and managed it down.

Big mistake.

From midnight till 2:00 am I was up out of bed attempting to heave my stomach empty. It felt like I had a layer of oil at the top of my stomach and nothing would come out! I took some nausea tablets and sipped water. I eventually opted for dry absorbant food to try mop up the oil in my stomach... I had survived...

Sunday

So it was already Sunday by that time. I slept a bit more. Then got up and the driving bit was about to start. @clairemobey and @jasperdick got together to do rehearsal as they are playing live on stage next weekend again.

Meanwhile, I took @aimeludick to go to the mall to hang out with her friends from school. In the meantime I took @merenludick and @matthew-williams to the Sword and Board hobby store.

The boys played some Pokemon while I chatted to my friends. Both boys bought a Pokemon booster pack each and @matthew-williams pulled a $13.50 gold foil card!

All in all... I guess not a bad weekend but I will be off of fried and oil foods for a while... yuck!

Lol, good catch on the cooking thing mate, that was probably destined to end badly, not just from the danger perspective, but also from the taste perspective.

Well, you knew it well before that forcing that oily food down on you wasn't the best idea, but you still did it. I'm sure you'll think twice before doing the same thing again. 😁

Voted on ListNerds!

Cool my bru. I will check out and follow the profile of Claire and Amy and Matthew and the others. I'm aiming to meet all the locals and upvote their posts. Let me know if you know of other South Africans to connect with. I have about 35 now that i know of lol.

Wow you did well to introduce so many people to Hive blogging, well done Zak.
I see Aime has not been posting for a few months. Meren neither. Encourage them if possible lol.

Best wishes from the Garden Route.

It's about time for another Thunder Community Post where I put all my SA contacts and other friends on a post and do a community thing. I will be adding you in and you can see who you know and who you don't know. There you can add what I don't have and collect what you don't have!
