Good day everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is another thrilling Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report of my Space Wolves army battling against the horror that is the Tyranid swarm!

Recently I posted about The First 500pts Battle against Tanya Leone's Tyranids.

Due to other people having matches that clashed with our plans, I ended up re-playing a match against her, where Tanya had mopped the floor with me not an hour past! 😱😱😱

So... I requested that we draw a new Deployment and Mission and we played the same armies against one another.

To Recap:

My Horde Wolf army of 500pts consists of the following:

Space Wolves, Vanguard Strike Force

• Lieutenant (Warlord)

• 2x 10 Blood Claws (Powerfist, Meltagun, Flamer)

• 1x 5 Long Fangs (Powerfist, Plasmagun, 4x Lascannons)

My opponent, Tanya Leone had the following:

Tyranids, Invasion Swarm

• Neurotyrant

• Neurolictor

• Screamer Killer

• 2x3 Von Rhyn's Leapers

The Battlefield

This time the Deployment was a Sweeping Engagement. While this might look a lot similar to the one that we played in the first match, the battlefield is a bit slanted in comparison.

Deployment

While the Tyranids deployed with their infiltrators far forward again, I employed a different tactic this time...

I deployed like this... What might look like a jumble of Space Wolves standing around in a bunch with no rhyme or reason, there is actually a lot of clever screening involved.

Although not ALL of my clever plans here was needed this time around I would like to point out the following:

The bubble in yellow is one unit, deployed spread out, ready to take the most direct of 1st turn assaults. The red group would not likely suffer a first turn charge as the enemy would need to remain outside of 1" of the yellow blob.

Lastly, the Long Fangs are not in danger of being charged at all on the first turn unless massive casualties can be scored on the yellow squad in the Shooting Phase prior to a charge.

I do realize however, after studying the rules closer that this Infiltration is illegal. We are used to thinking that Infiltrate means that you can deploy outside of 9" of an ENEMY model... but it is in fact outside of the enemy DEPLOYMENT zone!

So I shall remember for next time.

First Turn

However... we rolled for 1st turn and this time Tanya did not get the 1st turn, resulting in a 1st turn charge and stymie.

I declared an Oath of Moment on the Screamer Killer and she blasted out her Shadow in the Warp causing two units to be Battle Shocked.

The Screamer Killer lost half his wounds to the Long Fang's shooting.

The Blood Claws (Yellow pack) charged the 3 Von Rhyn's Leapers and though they Leapers have Fights First, they were wiped out.

Similarly, the other pack of Blood Claws with the Lieutenant charged the Neurolictor and killed it.

The Blood Claws that killed the Neurolictor consolidated into the Screamer Killer, preventing them from being shot or being shot at by the Screamer Killer (Its scream is a Blast weapon) or from the Neurotyrant!

The other unit of Von Rhyns Leapers and the Neurotyrant crushed in to kill that Blood Claw pack but the Tyranids sustained more damage.

Turn 2.

I did not have time to take many pictures at this point but it went like this...

The Long Fangs wiped out the Scream Killer.

The other unit of Blood Claws' shooting eliminated the Von Rhyn's and they charged and killed the Neurotyrant.

2 turns, Super bloody but this time I had wiped out the Tyranids with extreme prejudice. I was ready to pull other shenanigans to stop her strategy but I needed to show Tanya what happens when you keep playing aggressively and you don't win that 1st turn roll.

You might be thinking that the player who gets 1st turn will win automatically, but I had plans for that too... it was not likely going to go in her favour the same way twice in a row... but we will have to see in a future match against Tanya!
