Warhammer 40k - Battle Report 500pts: Space Wolves vs Custodes (@xenowolfza)

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here again from Cape Town, South Africa.

Here is another Warhammer Battle Report. This one I played against @xenowolfza at the Sword and Board. This was part of our extra games played for the Slow Grow event. This was my 28th battle in 10th Edition.

My Army

So I managed to build and put some paint on all the models. But I am nowhere near to finished with these models.

But I have the following:

Lieutenant
2x 10 Blood Claws
1x 5 Long Fangs.

The Opponent's army

1x Shield-Captain
4x Custodia Guard
3x Allarus Custodes

I cannot remember quite what mission we played. But I do remember my deployment.

I took hold of the Ruin you see in the above picture. This is where my Long Fangs took up position. They took up an exposed position, knowing that I would use Oath of Moment on a Custodian unit and then using Overwatch with the Lascannons for a 6+ to hit with a re-roll.

Custodians are the super-elite of the game with no tanks in the 500pts army. To me, each Toughness 6, 4 Wounds banana boy is a light vehicle or small monstrous creature in their own right and will be treated as such!

My two units of Blood Claws were arrayed at the base of the ruin to fight the attackers.

The Custodians led by Shield Captain deployed behind a ruin and totally out of sight.

The Battle

One unit of Blood Claws ran up and booby trapped the objective in my deployment zone and then ran back to defend my defensive stronghold.

The Lascannons managed to take a few Custodes out.

The effectiveness of Oath of Moment is compounded on any army that does not have many units on the board. It is much less effective on a Horde Army and massive against an army like this.

With only 2x units on the board, it counts as me having a re-roll to hit with my whole army against 50% of his army. So I set about killing that unit first and foremost.

After blistering firepower from the Custodians, Marnus pulled out all the abilities and Stratagems that allowed him to do horrif damage and kill many of my Space Wolves.

I had the numbers though and with the bait set and the Custodians closing in, I launched my counter-charge.

Firepower from the Allarus Custodians was also severe and I used my lascannons to fell those T7 Terminators.

In the end it was a win for me, holding one objective and then two while Marnus scored from an objective he placed Objective control on with a Stratagem.

Overall a bloody and viscous game! @xenowolfza comes closer and closer to beating me with every game.

In the end the Space Wolves prevailed in this battle.

Space Wolves win!
