Warhammer 40k - I did it! I blogged about my hobby and earned this army addition!

I did it! I blogged consistently about my hobby and took the HBD alone for my Hobby Fund and paid my friend R1500 (about $76 at the current exchange rate) for these models! Sor sure this is an absolutely awesome deal since that aircraft costs more than that new.

So what exactly did I get? Space Marine vehicles! That's what!

  • Stormraven (the big flyer)
  • 3x Predator Destructor tanks (The ones with the long barrels)
  • 2x Razorback tanks (They are also transports. I use two for my Grey Hunters)
  • 2x Mortis Dreadnoughts (These are Legends units, meaning they don't get used in tournaments but can be used in other types of games.)

And then my friend threw in 3x Land Speeders into the mix!

AWESOME!

This is going to be especially awesome for those Eternal Carnage games!

Imagine this gun line rolling up towards you?

Of course they would stop 36-48" away from your troops and start opening up with a withering number of shots. Of course they will not be unsupported with dozens of infantry squads advancing before them, seeking close range fighting.

All these tanks are likely to be put into my Space Wolves Great Company!

And then there is the following:

These units are capable of fast movement. While Infantry travel at 6" a turn with a D6" to run, Land Speeders go 18" normally. They can also go an additional D6" in an Advance move.

The Stormraven hower is a supersonic flyer. It is limited in how it turns per turn but it moves a minimum of 20" and up to 45" when it flies! It can also slow down and descent to hover, where it will lose its speed and Flyer rules and count like a hover tank. This is to represent a touchdown. The Stormraven can still make up to a 20" movement in hover and it needs to do this because a Stormraven is also a Transport!

12 Infantry models AND a Dreadnought can be transported by this awesome vehicle! Zipping towards the enemy and depositing a load of hurt into the enemy lines!

And then the Mortis Dreadnoughts with 4 shots PER autocannon at 8 shots S7 Ap-1 and D3 at 48" range!

This is altogether 1340pts of an army! Awesome gains!

This is the second purchase with Hive money! The first was R1000 for a batch of 20 Primaris Marines.

So this is the situation with the Hobby Fund:

Hobby Fund

Money Raised: R2529
Amount Spent: R2500
Current savings: R29
Next target: R2000
Amount left to go: R1971

The next target is set to R2000. I do not know how much the Leviathan box set will be, so I will aim towards the higher limits.

The Leviathan Box can be seen Here where I cut up the box with values everywhere.

This means that R29 already secures me 1x Infernus Marine out of 10 and more!

@merenludick is saving for the other half of the box and has R1141 in his savings for his Tyranids!

So let's go!

I will probably not earn the whole R2000 in time for the June release, but I will earn what I can. There is always more to be aquired after that... Oh... and I need to Paint!!!!

Thank you for reading!

Cheers!
@zakludick

Zak, this is an incredible deal! What a legend your friend is!
I love Land Speeders. For me Land Speeders and Land Raiders are the epitome of the 40K universe. Your force got a hell of an upgrade.

Are you going to paint over the top or strip the paint first?

Possibly just going to paint over it.

My base coat is black so it's like I already did that. Just some red parts to paint over.

Unless the paint is really really thick. We shall see.

Well... Stormraven is new to me. My collections list is that of Painted minis... I have plenty more Razorbacks, Rhinos and Predators... and 2 Land Raiders... and some of my own Land Speeders I had already.

But I am basically looking forward to collecting a full Great Company for my Space Wolves. So this helps a lot!

Um, I recognize that these are Space Wolf symbols, but I don't actually know what this is... is this the different groups that make up a battalion?

That is my Great Company in Red.

My Wolf Lord is Bjorn Stormwolf.

Bjorn Stormwolf - The military actions of Bjorn Stormwolf's Great Company are typified by noise, intimidation, and splendour. He has taken the Thunderwolf as his symbol, for he too is a creature of might and ferocity over stealth. According to legend, the Thunderwolf was one of the ancient wolves that Leman Russ fought and vanquished. The Thunderwolf ran from Russ and continues to run to this day, forever circling the world of Fenris. The creature can be seen as a constellation in the night sky fleeing across the heavens. As he passes overhead his howling cry is said to create the thunder, and his flashing fangs are the lightning. The symbol of the Thunderwolf is highly favoured as an emblem of Wolf Lords.

@aussieninja Sorry it double posted for some reason.

This is the Grand Annulus of the Space Wolves. Each Symbol represents a seat of the Wolf Lord and his Great Company. The Symbol in the middle is the Primarch's Symbol and becomes the Symbol of the current Great Wolf which is to say Chapter Master.

Ah, I didn't see the second post with the words! That makes way more sense. I have to say, reading this gives me chills. I think when I first started 40K the Space Wolves were just being developed so this brings back a lot of nostalgia that I have completely forgotten about.

Well, you see, I am a COLLECTOR and I am someone that likes the idea of creating massive armies. Amongst my warriors will be a tournament army. But I feel that this is not the full scope of how the game can be played. Sometimes you need to be able to field units that are lore correct and build a narrative or throw down a massive army on the field.

So there is a massive amount of people in the local scene that only focus on Tournaments and thus a lot of these units are practically useless. The core rules and meta game changes and those units fall out of favor. The Mortis Dreadnoughts are now Legends units for instance. They are no longer allowed for tournaments. But they are great units for other games.

As for R2000, that is 2000 South African Rands or ZAR. Games Workshop exchange rates seem to be quite special as it all does not directly translate. For instance, if I buy the Leviathan box in the UK it is cheaper than what they say it will be in the USA.

I have to Guess at this stage and try for R2000 in savings for the box. It is not far away, so I need to do what I can!

Ah really ? but i like the dreadnoughts. Why not in tournaments

So what happens is that sometimes certain models are longer made and supported by Active balancing and that is why they are not supported for tournaments.

Its just the Mortis pattern Dreadnought that is not supported. Others are fine.
