WARHAMMER 40k - Leagues of Votann Lore - The newest NEW(resurrected) Faction in Warhammer!

Source

Not going to lie - I love these guys!

Good day everyone, Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa with another Warhammer lore post!

I think I have listed basically all the factions or at least all the major factions of the 40k settings that are playable... I will do a double check.

The Leagues of Votann are the newest race to join the playable factions list. As such they do not have a very large amount of units to choose from, but they are already very cool.

Essentially these guys have existed in the lore for over 30 years and there were some really old models where they were used alongside Imperial forces.

They are basically Space Dwarves as much as Aeldari are Space Elves.

One thing is certain is that I have always been the guy that plays the Dwarf character in anything. If I HAD played Warhammer Fantasy Battle I would have picked Dwarfs. In Blood Bowl I play Dwarfs. In Warhammer Quest, I am the Dwarf! You get the idea!

So when it was announced that this model range was coming out I cried about my savings but accepted the fact that it would be inevitable that I would collect these guys!

The Truth of their Origins

I am a hardcore Imperial collector. Everything that serves the Emperor can be collected and everything that is Chaos or Xenos are scum to me!

The Votann kin are seen by some as Xenos and by others as Abhumans. In the Imperium there is little distinction or cohesion as to what they believe about these guys. Some call them "Squats" which is somewhat derogatory.

Either way the kin care little what others thing of them.

The truth however, is that they are space-faring human descendants who used pre-warp interstellar travel to leave Earth many thousands of years ago long before an Imperium was formed.

They set out mostly towards the Galaxtic Core and dabbled in genetics to be able to survive the extremes of space, gravity and radiation.

Fast forward to present time and the kin are ALL clones, in a sense. Birthed from Clone facilities called Crucibles, the Cloning Guilds have a broad spectrum of stable clone bodies and genetic variety to work with to create each new generation.

There are less Votann than there are humans in the Imperium, but it is said that there are MORE of them than the failing Aeldari race or the upstart T'au empire... and these guys mine, trade and go to war for resources... and they gave the T'au Ion Cannon technology... and have better Ion Cannons and Railguns than the T'au have! Mwahahaha!

I will cover their history and playstyle more in-depth in the future.

On the tabletop they are tough and they put out a lot of damage. They are not super numerous and they are quite slow.

Thus they need to focus on taking down the enemy speed as much as possible and they do this by allocating Judgement tokens on enemies that pose a significant threat.

I have the pre-release box of these guys in my hobby box that I still need to assemble and paint! I really need to get painting...

Thanks for reading!

Until next time.

Cheers!
