Warhammer 40k - Sisters of Battle 10th Edition Preview Review!

Time to review the Adepta Sororitas, the Sisters of Battle, the Nuns with Guns, the Bolter Bitches!

The militant arm of the Church! Yes, this is grimdark, where the church (The Ecclisarchy) can call upon a force of highly zealous and well equipped warrior women! To settle matters of faith... with fire and bolt guns of course!

I am doing my own run-through and review of the Factions of 40k that they have shown us with their 10th Edition rules so here goes!

Eye Candy

I have yet to see what a 2000pts Sisters army looks like (quantity-wise) so we shall see in the coming months!

Let's Go!

Army Rule for the Sisters

Right, so all Sisters of Battle (Adepta Sororitas) have is the ability to perform Acts of Faith. To do this you need Miracle dice. To earn them, the get one each turn (not battle round it seems) and you gain 1 each time a Adepta Sororitas unit is destroyed!

Then you roll a dice and keep it aside... for the following:

Each unit may, once per phase, substitute a dice roll for whatever is on the Miracle Dice instead.

So if you needed a 3+ to hit and you did not want to miss, you take a miracle dice that rolled a 3 or better and use that instead of rolling.

You can use it to Advance faster, To Hit, To Wound, Damage, Charging, Saving Throws and Battle Shock tests.

You can churn through them quite quick since you can use an Act per phase on each unit so you would need to choose where to use them!

If I were to play Sisters of Battle I would use them with some sort of weapons that does better damage when hitting a critical - for Miracle Dice on a 6. Or to cause reliable damage on variable damage weapons!

Detachment Rules - Hallowed Martyrs

The Hallowed Matryrs is a Detachment type you can field your Sisters in. In this force when a unit has lot any models they get a plus 1 To Hit. If the unit is below HALF strength they get both the plus 1 To Hit and a plus 1 To Wound!

Units that are just one model get the plus 1 To Hit when they lose any wounds! This is nuts since usually tanks at the last 25% of health usually get a -1 to Hit... this negates that completely!

Unit Spotlight - Triumph of Saint Katherine

The Triumph of Saint Katherine is a walking reliquary that has special religious meaning and can boost everyone within 6" of the Triumph. You choose two abilities each Battle Round and this buff everyone around, including the Truimph as well.

The abilities in a nutshell are:

  • Auto 6 for Miracle dice should nearby die.
  • Plus 1 Attack on Rapid Rife weapons
  • Plus 1 Leadership
  • Gain a 6+ Feel No Pain
  • Unlimited number of Miracles per phase
  • Melee weapons gains the Lethal Hits ability

Unit Spotlight - Battle Sisters Squad

The standard Battleline squad for the Sisters are the Battle Sisters Squad and they are looking amazing! Battleline means that you are allowed to field up to 6 of these squads in an army.

They have a Cherub that allows you to get a Miracle dice back after this unit uses a Miracle Dice!

They give you additional Miracle Dice when these units hold Objectives.

They give you additional Miracle Dice when this unit has a Simulacrum Imperialis and it destroys an enemy unit.

A good example of using a miracle dice on this unit is hitting and wounding an enemy with the Multi-Melta and the enemy failing their armor/invul save, prior to rolling that D6 damage, you merely select the 6 or whatever you have for damage and that is the damage! A Miracle!

Weapons Spotlight - The Exorcist

One of my most favourite weapons in this faction is the fact that they have a tank that brings an organ to the battlefield that they play with piano keys... that ALSO shoots missiles at the enemy!

It has 2 firing modes, anti-infantry or anti-tank/monster. Always at 36" range.

So either 3D6 shots, hitting at 3+ S5 and 1 damage. There shots can find you even if the tank cannot see you.

Usually not seeing you makes it -1 to Hit, but the gun is Heavy so if it remains stationary it gets a +1 to hit!
Indirect fire gives the enemy Benefit of Cover but this firing mode has Ignores Cover!

Then there is the tank-busting mode.

D6+2 shots (So 3 to 8 shots), hitting on 3+, S10, Ap-2 and D6 Damage. Again, Indirect Fire AND Heavy. So I see you and I don't move 2+ to hit. If I cannot see you and not move? 3+ to hit. If I cannot see you AND I want to move? 4+ to hit!

Weapons Spotlight - Lance of Illumination

Final Weapon is the Lance of Illumination. This is the weapon for Morvenn Vahl, Abbess Sanctorum of the Adepta Sororitas!

It has two hitting modes.

Sweep is 10 Attacks, hitting on 2+, S5 Ap-1 Damage 1
or
Strike at 5 Attacks, hitting on 2+ with S8 Ap-2 and Damage 3. However, this profile has the Devastating Wounds which means when rolling to Wound, on a roll of a 6 (Or by using a Miracle!) these wounds become MORTAL wounds! No saves for you!

Stratagem Spotlight

Finally a Hallowed Martyrs Stratagem.

Simply put, if you shoot at a unit of Sororitas and destroy any models in the unit, for 1CP this unit will shoot back at you!

And that is it! That is the review!

Thank you for reading!

Definitely my favourite faction in WH40K 😀 There's also some awesome cosplay based around it - if you look on YouTube for Sunday Slays Cosplay, that's the one I reckon is best (although it's tough to pick the best !), and she's also done a couple of videos showing how the kit was all put together.
