I was engaging with a @galenkp post asking for a picture and a story. I characteristically neglected to notice the 50-word limit, told the story anyway, and wondered if it would be fun to come up with a shorter form post. 1 pic seemed too little but 3 would be nice to try and succinctly tell a story. Gotta respect the time of your curators you know!

The Contest

When a client approached me with the idea to run a Smelliest Hockey Bag in Town promo, I thought WTF. The more I thought of it, the funnier it seemed and might be a good way to promote their line of branded apparel. Unfortunately, I had to be the sniff tester for all of the entries and pick the top 3 smelliest bags. What an olfactory oddessy.

The Finals

I organized the whole contest right up until the finals and was then voluntold that I would have to be the MC of the ceremony between periods of the home town team's home opener. Speak in front of hundreds of people and work with the guest judges and finalists? No problem.

The Money Shot

If there was one picture that could tell the whole story, this one is it. Behind the table we have the finalists with the 3 smelliest bags in town. On the far right is one of the home team players along with the owner of the promo gear company sponsoring the contest, the Tallman himself. In the middle, as the star of the shot, is the Mayor who we roped into being the final celebrity judge. You can tell what he thought of the finalist he was judging.

It ended up being a super fun contest with plenty of & and exposure all summed up by the sour look on the mayor's face as he sampled the winner. ;)

No lasting nasal trauma was experienced.
