That’s an exquisite song. I can’t believe I’ve never heard it before”

Ellie to jack about Yesterday by The Beatles.

Ah yes, i am most excited for this review! I, myself, as a personal fan of The Beatles, found that this movie hit me really REALLY hard - in a good way of course!

Anyway, now that all the protocols have been duly observed, let's get right into the review.

Yesterday is a 2019 Musical/Romance drama with a hint of comedy in it every here and there, that stars Himesh Patel as Jack - a young musician whom suddenly finds himself in an alternate universe (timeline), where The Beatles don't exist. In turn, seeing as how no one in the world (not even the internet!) knew anything about the famous band and their iconic songs, Jack takes it upon himself to claim their songs as his own which, of course, instantly gains him worldwide fame and recognition as the next possible, greatest musician of all time!

My, oh my ... How I adore this film! I absolutely loved everything about it! From the brilliant casting, to the original and creative plot; to the wonderful SONGS, and even to the adoring romance between the two main stars, everything - EVERYTHING - was just a brilliant experience!

Ok, let me just say this now: Beatle fans! If you're looking to watch this movie anytime soon, just know that you're going to be getting yourself into a huge dose of nostalgia and wholesomeness!

Honestly, hearing all those songs made me realize just why I fell in love with the Beatles music in the first place. They were indeed the greatest of the greatest and their music will forever have a place in my heart. And this, precisely, was why I enjoyed this movie so much! It found a brilliant way to incorporate some of the Beatles best hits into the entire movie!

Essentially, the idea of Yesterday is to give a sort of homage to the great work and life of the British Band and to show, just how important and influential their music was to the world. I mean, can you imagine a world without the Beatles? I surely can't. But however, even with that entire concept still in play, there's also another theme the movie tries to portrays - one that involves a charming romance between Jack and his Childhood friend, Ellie.

Throughout the cause of the movie, Jack not only struggles with the pressure and responsibility that comes with reproducing the Beatles soundtracks as his own but also, he struggles with his complicated relationship with Ellie. Alas, he is put in a dilemma where he has to choose between love and fame.

A choice I'm sure most of us could fine quite hard :)

Anyway, enough about the plot, let's talk about the cast! Apart from casting talented actors such as Himesh Patel(Jack), whom of course was already a singer and instrumentalist before the movie, and Lily James(Ellie) whom of course is always a badass when it comes to her on-screen appearances, there was still yet another member of the cast, whom I felt deserved much more credit for his performance - and that is Ed Sheeran.

Lol, look at Ed being a low-key goat. Ha! You know you're a bad ass when you start playing yourself in movies XD

To be very frank here, one of the main reasons, aside from the Beatles, that I decided to watch this movie - was because of the watch-bait casting of Ed Sheeran lol. Honestly, I didn't even know he could act. His performance, to me, was pretty damn good and his chemistry with his other cast mates where quite enjoyable.

There's this particular scene in the movie, where Jack and Ed are working on Jacks new song -Hey Jude and Ed decides to tweak the song title a little bit. Ha! His suggestion always cracks me up!

"The title Hey Jude, the name Jude, is just a bit old fashioned don't you think? Why not Hey Dude?”

– Ed Sheeran to Jack in the studio.

Lol, Beatle fans should get this reference XD

All in all, I felt this movie was really good and I believe the entire team did a great job in paying respects to the legacy of the Beatles and their great music.

Now I don't know if this rating I'm about to give the movie is influenced by my love of the band or by a certain wholesome cameo that comes towards the end of the movie 👀 but... I'll give Yesterday a good 9.0/10. Trust me, you'd wanna watch this one...

Thanks for reading and keep exploring!

I commented to another moviegoer a few days ago in his review that I had my doubts about how this movie would develop and not because the story was not original, leaving aside the cliché of movies where romance and music go hand in hand, since we are clear about the direction they point to and in many cases it is a bit more of the same. I have to say that I was wrong because they knew how to carry a story without the need to abuse what The Beatles means to millions of people and obviously from the title you can feel the essence of the band, but it does not take over everything as it serves as a bridge and somehow shows us what the music can mean depending on the ear that listens to it.

The film gives a long and deep opinion on common issues in life and that in itself is complicated and although many do not agree when a simple film makes you think more is when you realize that you have enjoyed it or at least took you by the hand until the end no matter what the critics say.

A simple and fresh story... Cheers! @zeraton

Well said my friend, they truly did do justice to the legacy of the Band in the film.

And absolutely! A movie that makes you really think, is the best in my opinion.

Screams in Christopher Nolan's Tenet😂

Cheers bud!

Oh you most definitely should check it out!

Also, look out for a particular scene where Jack plays the "Long and winding road" song. His take on it was quite enjoyable.

Cheers!
