Weekend enjoying the Orinoco River.
Hello friends of this hive that invites us to share about those weekends in which we do something different from the routine days, although for me they are almost the same, since I retired some time ago, I spend most of the time at home, but when there is the opportunity to go out on a weekend to something different, we do it.
If in my hometown recently on Saturday March 16, we went to the Orinoco River, the Paseo Orinoco, where it will be held for the third consecutive year, the swim of the same, is an activity within the swimming but in open water, it is more like endurance.
Not only for athletes from my city, but for anyone who wants to participate and who is a good swimmer, came from different cities of the country: Cumana, Anaco, Maracaibo, El Tigre, Puerto Ordaz, Ciudad Bolivar, categories from infant to senior citizens.
The appointment was early in the area called the cocuyera, where you can see a lot of sand because the river is low at this time of the year, the summer, you can go down to the river, but we did not do it, so we left home early, to see everything from the beginning.
It is my first time that I come to see the competition, the other times I missed them, because I did not know when it was, but this time my daughter told me before and I said this time yes, now I will be more aware for the 4th edition next year.
There was a lot of security both for the swimmers in the water, with support boats, on the shore organizers, paramedics, in the awnings was the doctor in case of any emergency that thank God was not necessary, the technical table with the control of everything.
Once all the competitors had been checked, they were reminded of the rules, the day before was the technical congress in a hotel in the city. Once everything was clear, the competition began, first the men, both young and old, and then the women. When the competition was over, they all completed the course, won a symbolic medal that was given to them when they reached the shore, but the real winners were prizes in dollars and others.
Then there were the children between 10 and 13 years old, it is incredible the strength of these children to swim like this in that river that is deep, but that is achieved with preparation, it is not the same to swim in a pool of 50 meters to swim 1 kilometer in open water, the adults swam 3 kilometers.
Besides that we also had a wonderful family time, feeling the sun, the breeze, me barefoot as if I were on the beach, it feels good, but the best thing was to spend it with my children, so as much activity as I know in the city we will go, as long as it is during the day.
There were many people who came to see this activity, exciting when they reached the finish line, the weather was wonderful, a true blessing from God.
