How Agona Bedomase in Ghana observed world workers day as they received free health care from Hive

The generous residents of Agona Bedomase in Afigya Sekyere South in the Ashanti region of Ghana couldn't contain their joy as they received free health screenings from Hive at the Bedomase township on May 1st, also known as "May Day" and observed as a statutory holiday because it's a day they use to honor Ghanaian workers.

Residents in rural communities like Ghana's Agona Bedomase rarely visit hospitals unless a patient is in critical condition, in which case they accompany them to the district's capital where they can attend a government hospital. Despite this, individuals like Agona Bedomase in Ghana nonetheless struggle with financial restrictions related to access to healthcare.

Despite the fact that there is a universal national health insurance program in Ghana that is supposed to make medical care free for everyone. Although a patient's health insurance can only pay for a hospital card, it can cover other expenses but not to standard. Because of this, it was impossible for a typical Ghanaian living in a remote area to get excellent medical care.

These are some of the explanations for why Hive ended up being a benefit to the Bedomase community because they were not only given medical examinations but also medicine to those who needed it. Our medical team, which was lead by an optometrist named Doctor @Nathaniel, examined the subjects' eyesight in particular, as well as their blood pressure, blood sugar, and diabetes status. Since I rarely have time to visit the hospital for a medical exam as a journalist or reporter because of the nature of my work, unless I am ill, I seized the chance to participate in the free health screening by having my eyesight and blood pressure checked.

Hive has been a godsend to Ghana since in addition to providing free medical examinations and treatment to us, they have also given some underprivileged people in the country life (because water is life).

I had the chance to speak with the community's chief, who claimed that this is not the first time an NGO (Non-governmental organization) has provided them with comparable outreach. He finds it amazing that we offer everything for free thanks to the Hive team. Unlike the others, you must either bring proof of your national health insurance plan or pay for the prescription drugs and specialty eyewear they advise.

The sheer number of people that showed up for the activity personally overwhelmed me. According to the Assembly member from that area, there are not more than 500 people living in Bedomase; yet, 400 individuals showed up for the exercise. Actually, Hive is influencing and transforming lives. Anyone who learns about the good work Hive is doing for Ghana is inspired to join in and feel proud. To ensure that at least every Ghanaian knows about Hive and what we are up to, the biggest media outlet in Ghana, TV3, sent a crew to cover the program for us.

I want to take this chance to thank Hive Ghana from the bottom of my heart for all that they have been doing for us. Not to be forgotten for this endeavor are @Mcsam and @Collinz. Following that, the entire medical staff under the direction of @Nattybongo for the selfless work you have been doing for mother Ghana. Last but not least, thanks to @Awuah and @Creativa for making it a pleasure to work with you. Being a member of this beautiful family makes me proud.
