Friday 13th ~ A Busy Day

Hello there.

This is my first post this year. I have so much to share. More than you'll ever want to see in one post, so I'll continue tomorrow maybe. No one actually know what will happen tomorrow, or even today, but we still plan. 🙂

It's Friday and I have a lot to share for #MarketFriday hosted by Denise @dswigle 🥰Today I am very excited.

I'm going to the cinema later today. Without context, this is an ordinal event itself. But the last time I went to the cinema was on February 23, 2022. The day before Russia attacked us. My husband and I went to the last session, so we returned home late. It was such a beautiful evening. And after 5 hours the war started.

Today it will be same cinema, but different movie. Ukrainian movie "Carol of the Bells".

I've purchased tickets online, hoping that there will not be air raid or power cut off.🤞🤞🤞

Power on and off in Kyiv return after New Year. I worked from home today, and when power was off, I drove to my friend, volunteer Nika. It is she who first brought me to my first volunteering center. I didn't see her since spring.

I came to pick up a special coffee pot to prepare coffee on gas. She is running coffee bussiness, and this particular coffee pot is really cool, it was used just a couple of times on Coffee World Championship, and is made of copper and silver. A true star!


Then I drove to downtown. I made an appointment in a manicure salon. We all need a time just for ourselves once in a while.

Oh, I miss my hanging around so much. It happens not often, but when my brain is not busy, I notice new things around. Today I passed by a small bakery. Fist, I noticed a really big generator.

I was going to buy cookies for breakfast, so I came closer and looked inside through the window. They had various bread, and then I saw Challah, a jewish festive bread. I was so surprised, just couldn't believe my eyes. This is the first time in my life when I see it in a bakery, I mean a true Challah that is baked on Friday for a weekend. Once, this was a district when Kyiv jews lived.

I bought one, it was not cheap, 133 UAH, it's around 3,3 USD. I wonder is it as tasty as the one I bake? Well, we'll see.


As I walk toward the salon, I noticed a beaufitul arch and a passage to coutryard. It looked familiar. Last winter, before the war, I was here with a local guide who showed us secret courtyards and picturesque corners of this area.

Here, I am on the spot. Visitor are not many. I used to come here often, long ago, in my previous carefree life...

My backpack with Ecency logo fit right in the interior. But photo cannot express the aroma came out of it. The aroma of freshly ground coffee and freshly baked bread! 🥰🥰🥰

All is done fast, so I have time to eat. ... Ah, I miss good old burgers sooo much! So I headed to The Burger Mexico, they serve the best burgers in the city.

OMG, look what is opened? Life goes on 😆

Nick join me today. This day is really fast. I came, took a sit, made an order. Nick came in after a few minutes, and in a few more minutes our burgers were ready! Ready? 😉

Now when I and my hubby are full, we can go to the cinema. I am a little worried about my parked car. I dropped it near the spot, and hope I didn't violate the parking rules. 😬😬 Who knows what Friday 13th has for us.



But let's believe in good.

The bread is a total surprise! It's delicious, with a crispy crust. Not like mine, different, but not worse! A nice find 😋🥰

That pillow in the yellow chair looks like a pastry, baked to a lovely golden brown, drizzled with chocolate and white, powdered sugar icing! LOL! 😂

I am really happy that I listened to my intuition and went out yesterday, because after today's attack I am not sure.
The film made a very strong impression. unfortunately it was shot on set and it's not a Hollywood budget. but the plot itself and the performance of the actors is incredible. If you'll be able to see it, it helps to understand what's happening in my world, and in my family. Besides, events are happening in my hometown. Hope the world will see it!

It was a huge relief to find my car where I dropped it. There are many tow trucks driving along the streets looking for victims these days 😊 My friend left her car too close to the crosswalk (less than 15m) just for 15 minutes, and when she return and didn't see it she were in a panic. 😬 So I tries to not violate anything, but was worried anyway.

You should make that into its own post, and put it in the Cinnamon Cup Coffee Community

What a nice post 😊. So happy for you on so many levels for this little break you got for yourself. It sounds like a good Friday 13th, I'm a born 13th so this bad luck thing is a bit overrated lol...though my bike and car broke down yesterday 😂.

I'm fine, thx dear. No need, or money, lol, to buy new. It's all fixable. Since I lost my drivers license I need my bike to get to work each day, which is a ride of 40 km. So walking would be a bit of a hassle 😂.

The cinema! That is a huge deal! I cannot imagine the thoughts of taking such a wonderful night and having to relate it back to the beginning of the war. You will never forget those moments before. Hopefully, in time, you will have new memories to replace it. I insist this to be true. I hope the cinema was a fun night for you and Nick.

I have never seen Challah at a bakery before. Perhpas I am not looking in the right place or bakery, but, not in my entire life. My mother had very special friends who taught her how to make the bread from a set aside piece of dough, and she taught me how to braid it too. We are not jewish, but, many of our friends are. She did that my entire life. It felt right.

Did it taste as good as yours? :)

I started this on Friday and had to interrupt my comment as I am away from home now. It is Sunday and I have been thinking about your post and all the things you must have been thinking as you wrote this. It was such a heartfelt and poignant post, the words gave me hope that things will be okay for you. I can hope, along with prayers. Oh, the prayers said in your name.

Having a manicure/pedicure is wonderous. The grooming of ones self and just relazing as this is done for you has such a mood boosting effect on me. It makes me feel so good and makes me feel beautiful inside. I am so glad that you do this. You are beautiful nonetheless, but, to have it done. It makes one feel special.

The sex shops. I smiled. Many things go out of business, but sec never does.

I will admit that a good hamburger is a weakness in me. I love them, but only once in a while do I have them. The fresh bread! I can smell it from here! Fried potatoes on the side. You are dialing my number, for sure! I hope that Nick also had a good day! So nice you could have a few special moment together. Tell me how the cinema went! Did you get a parking ticket??

I try to let people know how much I appreciate their participation in #MarketFriday! Even though I get many on a weekly basis, each one is read and enjoyed. My mother had very special friends who taught her how to make the bread from a set aside piece of dough, and she taught me how to braid it too.

I am not sure if I understood what is the bread from a set aside piece of dough, I mean here some people bake bread using dough as a starter, instead of yeast. I googled and found some info about Jewish custom or recommendation how to "separate" challah, but not sure if I fully understand it. Anyway, it's interesting. I learnt it all by myself, using Internet and my experience. Nick's mom is Jew but she barely stick to their traditions. So it was my own idea to bake challah, and I love the part of braiding very much.

The one from the bakery was very good, not worse than mine 😍 Although taste differs a little. A good find!

Your prayers work ❤ On Sunday, I was going to visit an open air museum. And I woke up too late, besides air raid started, so we stayed at home. And then Nick read that rocket fragments fell on the territory of the museum.😳 This was ... a small miracle by someone's prayer.

Thanks God car was okay. I checked it before burgers, after burgers and then again ☺ Sounds like a paranoid but... sometimes you can be right but still have problems. I think it happens everywhere.
Oh, cinema... I really loved the movie. I read about the filming, and I really liked the soundtrack. It's is so beautiful and gentle. In addition, the events of the film are take place in my hometown. I knew it is a drama, but I thought I had become less sensitive to drama in movies and in life. In fact, I watched with tears in my eyes almost all session, and in the end burst into tears. Probably, I wasn't ready ... but I'm glad. I recommended it to Nataly, they went together yesterday and were very excited too.

I can only imagine how many posts you have to read for #MarketFriday, and the more I appreciate your time and genuine words.
