Just regular people

You may encounter them on your street, in a cafe, or in a museum. They prefer same breakfast as you and listen to similar music. They smile and leave generous tips. They received a good education, and now their business is booming. Besides, their kids are so sweet. Beautiful faces, beautiful bodies.

Regular people from Russia. They suffer from sanctions. They couldn't get dollars from an ATM, couldn't buy their favorite BigMac or Roquefort, or an legal iPhone, and had to overcome additional hardships to spend their holidays abroad.

But look at the delight and joy they experience from the news of the mass death of civilians in Ukraine from Russian bombs. From the fires that destroy homes, medical clinics, business center, shops. How they savor the intricate details of torture and suffering. "Children are killed? They deserve it." They raise a toast and hope that it will become a tradition. They are proud of their country now more than before. Just a regular people.

(After the news from Vinnytsia, I felt so terrible yesterday that I had to take few pills.)

The winter was long and tense. The spring was bloody and full of terrible news. Death, destruction, refugees, nuclear threat. Ordinary people suffer from stress, inflation and rising prices. But now is a wonderful summer time - a time of relaxation, travel, parties, cocktails and warm meetings. After all, there is no war in their country. Soon they'll have to return to everyday routine - studies, career, loans, home repairs, heating prices. The winter will be long and cold...

Ordinary people are not interested in politics. Politicians often lie and manipulate, and it is usually even more difficult to understand the politics of another country. Who is right there and who is not - they cannot be sure. But they are certainly against the war. Let's just stop this monstrous war. How much longer will all this last? The more weapons Ukraine gets, the longer this will go on, isn't it?. What is needed for life to become prosperous and peaceful again, as they used? Maybe Ukraine should make concessions and give part of its territory? This is only 20%.

This text is again not what I was going to write about. And not about you, hopefully. But this text is the reality in which you and I live. Russia has opened Pandora's box, and this is not a local conflict, and none of us will be able to go back to February 23th, 2022.

We are facing a wave of global inflation, local deficits and a chaotic recession the likes of which the planet has never seen before. Not because there were no bigger waves. It happened, but then the world was not so integrated, so it was easier to survive local escalations.

When the active phase of our war ends, we will not recognize the world we will see around us. Difficult times await us all. Strange times, very strange times...

In the meantime, all you should know is that Ukrainian people will not surrender. We didn't start the war, but will fight until the end. There is only one way to end this war - to help Ukraine.

Russia is definitely a terrorist state. What they are doing to civilians has not name. I hope the culprits are tried and convicted soon!!!

I hope the culprits are tried and convicted soon!!!

So do I, with all my heart. Yesterday, the missile attack on Vinnytsia was intended as a targeted killing civilians while Ukraine Accountability Conference was held in Hague

It was reported today that a British man died in the hands of Russia and their puppets recently. They have so much blood on their hands, it will never be washed clean

I wish enough Russian citizens could see through the propaganda to wake up and revolt against Putin. Putin understands his country's history enough to know now that he's begun he can't lose this war or he'll be ousted from power.

I still believe this won't end well for Russia, the countries they're forming alliances with seem strong on the surface but all of them are very vulnerable if the supply chain breaks down and this could happen soon. For the sake of the people of Ukraine and all of humanity, I wish the carnage would end sooner rather than later.

You all are in my thoughts every day.

I wish enough Russian citizens could see through the propaganda to wake up and revolt against Putin.

This would be the best solution for us. For everyone. But people in Russia have been living under propaganda for so long that I have no idea what should happen that they woke up. They believe Putin more than their sisters, brothers and children that lives in Ukraine. Perhaps a change in perception of reality requires a generational change.

Yesterday, our Minister of Defense, said that it's possible to end the war this year. It was probably the best statement I've heard in the news in months.

Thank you for your comment and support!

That is so true, it's difficult when the state-run media is bombarding them with propaganda 24/7. The younger generations are always the ones that wake up first. I still have hope they will but I hope it happens soon. There needs to be a movement that starts that the Russian youth can rally around. I assume the soldiers coming back are sharing horror stories with friends/families privately. Even many of them have admitted the war isn't what they were told or what they signed up for.

This is what we're hearing here in America that Putin is looking for a way to "save face" and end the war with a "win". That "win" might be a small amount of Ukrainian territory that they can claim as their own.

You're welcome. Thanks for reporting to us what's going on. You and your people are an inspiration to the world.

I agree with you about youth that wake up first. They are our hope, in both nations. 3 months ago I hoped so much that something will happens inside of Russia, I was hoping for mass dissatisfaction with the number of deaths and with that they really do in Ukraine. I was hoping for a discontent about worsen of life due to sanctions. but nothing happened. In recent years there have been several large movements, mass protests in Russia. I really hoped that positive changes would finally happen and they would get rid of this monster. But they were failures. Maybe they are too terrified.. I remember how it was in the USSR.

Is there a way to save Putin's face? I don't know. His people are zombified by propaganda but not completely stupid. Besides, and this is even worse, saving his face and any other deals does not guarantee he will not attack in the future. On the contrary, given his ambition and the cult he had created, it would mean the period they would get to prepare for the next attack.

Appreciate your comments. It's always a point of view of a real person outside and a chance to see "yourself" through the eyes of other people.

It seems the only path to peace is one without Putin. Thank you for telling your story! You have a lot of support in this part of the world.

I think these bloodthirsty assholes are a minority in Russia - only a loud and well visible minority. It is a result of mass hypnosis, propaganda and self-delusion.

I'd like to believe they are minority. On other hand, statistics says that about 80% supports Putin. Hovewer, who can trust their statistics?

But I was struck but huge dissonance between pictures of some of them, beautiful face and dark, black soul. Humans differ from beast by their empathy but those people are sadists and mudreres.

I think it is important to consider the societal factors, propaganda, etc. Have you heard Oleksandr Paliy's lectures on the sibject?

Dear @zirochka , I agree with you when you say "Ordinary people are not interested in politics. Politicians often lie and manipulate, and it is usually even more difficult to understand the politics of another country.", I can see it every day talking with other people in real. I think people, now in the 2022, has many opportunities (sure, more than 20 or 30 years ago) to learn more about the other countries. People can read different sources of informations thanks internet (yes, people have to understand the differences from a real news and a fake news), people can read books, study culture and history, people have to learn to tink about him/herself to be no manipulate. People can do it, but sometimes people seems to be too lazy to do it.
For the Ukraine situation there is just a truth: Putin started a war against you and this is the main fact. There is no possible to manipolate this truth, even if I perfectly know how the russian propaganda is working to manipulate every fact . I know there are also some russian journalists who are trying to say the truth about what happens, but all the world know what happened, for example, years ago to the journalist Anna Politkovskaja who was killed by Putin cause she wrote the truth.
I'm with you and with Ukrainian, dear @zirochka ❤️

You know, talking about "ordinary people that are not interested in politics", I meant myself as well. This is a sad statement. I remember the times of Yanukovich (our president of a fugitive), politics was a complete disappointment and the news was a total pain. all this day by day increased my feeling of powerlessness and disappointment, I was nervous and depressed. I told myself that I will no longer go to vote for anyone, I will not be interested in the news at all. Thus, I became an ordinary person I write now... So I understand how it goes.

Now I have a completely different attitude to conflicts between countries. But it can be really difficult to separate a lie from the truth. Russia has a lot of money to pay for propaganda inside the country and abroad, lobbyists, loyalty of politicians and entire political parties. Ukraine don't have money for that. If we lose the information war, things could end very badly. Without the support of other countries, we will not be able to win, we will simply die... We are grateful with all our hearts for the donations and financial help, for the helmets, vests, medicine, but above all for the weapons. I pray every day that we will not lose this support. And thank you very much for your comment, dear Silvia, because it gives me hope. It is so important in the midst of the terrible news of bombings and deaths, not to lose hope.

Regular people are not interested in politics. They are interested in what happens in the world. interested that there is equality, interested that their children are safe, fed, educated, and loved.

All of this takeover business has little to do with anything but greed, being in charge, being the schoolyard bully, I am so disgusted with it all. The need for power is ridiculous. What does it get you? More land? More money? More people to boss around?

I just don't get it.

I am always looking for an answer for myself - should I be interested in politics? For now, I think that citizens of a state with strong institutions, with the rule of law, an independent press and democracy may not be interested in politics. As you say, that is how it is in your country, and this is great.

But in our country.... One mistake of a voter at the election, because he allowed himself to be deceived or bought, can cost our country independence. Literally. We are very unlucky with our neighbor, he is very aggressive and has bunch of money. After the start of the war, we see many officials on elected position went over to the side of the enemy. How did it happen? how to prevent it?

It's sad, but in our country we have to be interested in politics and economy all the time, dive deep into the subject, and try not to become a victim of manipulation or lie. For me, this "activity" destroys faith in people. But ...it seems the Athenian was right when he said "If you are not interested in politics, it does not mean that politics is not interested in you"

Concerning more land, "Empire must expand"... 🙄
