Looking around Chocolate Factory

A "true" winter has come to Ukraine. With snowfalls and frost. We have -14 C today, soft rays of light, blue sky and clear frosty air. Awesome weather for beautiful winter walk and photographs.

Unfortunately, I have to work in the day, and a light part of it is still so short. If only I were a morning person like a @tattoodjay, but I'm not. That's why in winter I walk mostly in dark and night cold. Although, nice festive lightened look of some areas can be my reward.

I will resume my searching for white mouse when it gets warmer because walk few kilometers along the river in this kind of weather is too harsh challenge for gentle skin of woman's face 😊

All right. My choice for this week was surroundings of the most famous Chocolate Factory in Ukraine. (locals got my sarcasm). Every year they decorate the whole big building with huge tale pictures made of lights. Moreover, every year it's different. They are so lively. I walked by it every work day for 5 years and didn't take a one picture.

This year, I had some business in that part if the city, so I grabbed my camera, lightweight tripod and hubby to carry it and help me, and we went there. 😉

Recently, they reconstructed their facility, and arranged icerink in their backyard with colorful New Year Tree in the middle. It's very popular in winter.

They decorated even a service entrance.

dsc09320.jpg

And arranged few photo zones.

dsc09323.jpg

The main facade all in flying baloons. The other part was used as a background for lazer pictures. But here, my husband said he's hungry and frozen to bones, and we went looking for meal.

Besides, camera get fussy, it didn't focus and captured this:

Now, when I'm finishing this post, I say to myself: How great that we didn't go there today, when it's ... let me check ... -16 C. And hubby has a runny nose. Hope it's not my fault 😬

Well, time to make ginger tea for my hubby. Thank you for a visit. Stay warm and healthy!

Those decorations are so beautiful

But trust me sometimes the early mornings are colder than the evenings hence I have been slack with walking this week

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

But trust me sometimes the early mornings are colder than the evenings

When I think of it and compare to my cozy blanket, pillow and hot beverage, a dawn walk have zero chance 😅

Oh my!
Do cameras even work in such cold?
It looks beautiful and your pictures are lovely but I don't think I can survive so much cold :)

Thank you! I somehow lost one picture ))) Camera works for a while and then started to slow down. I updated the post 😊😄

Actually, we here got used somehow to winter cold on our latitude. But when you stay still, it's always cold, especially when humidity is high ❄

yeah! cameras do work, it is no problem. weak spot is their lithium batteries; low temperature is a really critical thing.

maybe you have to ask @chanych85 about that, he is expert in long wintertime trips to the forest and mountains. he lives in a deep Russian mainland (close to Siberia). it was just last week we discussed this issue. as he mentioned, his original Canon battery provides with -20C about 450 raw shots (depending on the timing, long timings are most consuming). his other (non original battery, obtained from aliexpress) gives very different result - about 50 photos.

speaking about my own experience... I have three batteries (all of them are pretty much weared-out) and I cannot conduct long sessions... 40-60 mins is the limit.

I specially looked at the book that came with the camera -

at 23°C, approximately 850 frames. At 0°C approx.
750 frames
When shooting using the Live View:
at 23°C, approximately 200 frames. at 0°C, approximately 180 frames

But that means a new battery.

And the camera itself is designed to work in conditions up to -40. Again from the user manual :)

TNKS! so, the datasheet provides info only for 0 .... +23°C, and no figures for temperatures below zero? a nice touch! ;=)

There are only figures that the camera can work at -40 :))

But, there is another point - at low temperatures, the camera shutter starts working with some kind of extraneous sounds, at first it was a little scary :) Repair on a full-frame camera is very expensive ...

Thank you @qwerrie and @chanych85 for all those valuable info. I will probably never use it but then again who knows?

No, they have 6-7 outlets and every year they decorate nicely in front of the biggest outlet but this year I haven't seen anything...

Oh, get it. Yes, windows of their shops also often have installations - models that moves. They are interesting and beautiful too. Sorry to hear they didn't show something new this year.

Thank you for a visit and here is a little !BEER to cheer up 😉

Brrrrhhhh -14, that's cold

So judging by your tone, if I ever go to Ukraine for holiday I needn't buy any of your most famous chocolate back as gifts for friends and family 😂

The funny thing is that Roschen is really very good and is a good gift. The variety (and quality) of candies and cakes is impressive. Besides, a famous Kyiv Cake (it's our Zaher Cake 😊) is their invention and the best among all.

But! It belongs the our previous president. During his rule, the number of Roschen brand stores just burst our market. It's grown dramatically. We have a lot of jokes and memes about it, coz, you know, too much is too much.

How are you, by the way? Is Covid gone?

it depends on humidity, and also on how much windy it is. it can be light and bearable... and sometimes it is harsh and unbearable even at -10C

Indeed, a wonderful Christmas Tree and a skating ring - I'm really jealous that you have such a spot (is it municipal authorities to thank - or ROCHEN?...)
and my congratulations that Winter finally has Come!

Thank you!! It's all Roshen, their territory and they decorate it.

Looks like winter is going to leave us soon. Tomorrow we'll have positive degree 😬

ah, poor municipals did not invest a single coin into this luxury then? hehe. at least I hope the entrance to the skating ring was free? 😁

Municipals spend money for decorating main squares, and main NY Tree, but this is property of enterprise. As well as skating ring, so entry is not free )) But even so, it's really crowded on weekends. I captured these photos in an ordinal work day, when visitors aren't so many.

You are lucky with a true winter weather. For me, a winter without snow and frost is not winter 😊
