Every Flower Has Its Own Beauty

When I was little, I used to go to the village home of my mother. There my grandparents lived, they always have adored me and I still remember every bit of it. We had a garden there because my grandmother loved flowers. So, one day I went to the garden to check on the flowers. There I saw my grandfather, he had planted many different seeds previously and now they are all grown. Some of the flowers grew tall and some remained short and some bloomed in strange shapes. So, I was curious why he didn't grew the most beautiful flowers only? When I asked him about it, he pats my head and said, "If every flower looked the same, the garden would lose its beauty."

So, what was the point of telling this story? Well, this memory came back to me when I thought about designer babies. As that's the topic for today. I personally think it's a bad idea. I don't think anyone should even think about such things. If parents could choose everything about their baby as their appearance or intelligence then it doesn't sound exciting at all, I feel terrified. I know that parents wants the best for their child. But I think there is a big difference between treating a serious illness and designing a baby to fit someone's idea of perfection.

We shouldn't even try to be perfect because perfection doesn't exist. Someone who looks fit from the outside, you don't know what problems they are carrying secretly. No one can truly know what makes a person special before they are even born. What does appearance has to do? People are never satisfied with anything, all they do is complain all of the time. Does that mean something is wrong with us? No, obviously not. It means the person who has such thoughts it's their problem. We have no control over what others think, so it doesn't mean we have to change ourselves or make a perfect baby who looks perfect.

How would you know what they will be like when they grow up? The purpose our life should be to be ourselves and find happiness. We shouldn't chase after appearance or intelligence. We don't need anything else as long as we are happy. I have seen parents in my country, they are not satisfied with their children's appearance. Like they are one kind of racist you can say that. I saw them criticizing their own child for not having a fair skin and for being brown or dark skinned. Specially women face those things in our country when they are not fair skinned, they often hear hurtful comments from family, relatives and even friends, like, "Who will marry you?" I really think they don't deserve to be a parent because how can someone say such harsh things to their own child? And they are not even trying to protect their child from others as well. I think those kind of people need treatment for mental health.

One should be happy if their children's are healthy and living happily. What others say, what others think is not our problem. Someone who is not so tall they still grow up to be kind, creative or brave. Those qualities cannot be picked from a list. I also worry if people starts to customize then those children might feel they have to meet the expectations their parents created for them. Children's are not any kind of product they are also a human being just like their parents. I don't think anyone should be treated like a product or an object. If a parent chooses certain traits, the child may feel like they were made to satisfy a plan instead of being loved for who they are.

I think using science to prevent painful diseases is a wonderful thing because it helps children live healthier lives. Babies are not toys that you want to play with, like their are not a Barbie that you can do whatever you want with them. Changing healthy babies just to match personal preferences feels hideous to me. We should be taught to love ourselves and not to become someone else. If there's no differences and everyone looks, behaves the same way that would be the worst thing. It would be boring if everyone tried to create the "perfect" child. I believe everyone is born with their own strengths and weaknesses and that is what makes people unique. Your unique quality makes you beautiful. I think it's a basic knowledge which everyone should carry that "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder," if someone doesn't find something beautiful it's their problem.

We need to educate ourselves and gain more knowledge, instead of being emotional about each and every thing which has no correlation with us. Because we can never change the way others think or see. In conclusion, it's not okay if parents could modify the babies they get to have because it's truly sickening. So, I believe parents should love and support the baby they are blessed with instead of trying to create a perfect version. Just like my grandfather's garden, where every flower had its own place and beauty.

Well said!

I can't understand why people will even consider that. This is a human being we're talking about. Not some Barbie doll that you can twist and alter. People even thinking about this shows how wild the modern world has become. We're not satisfied with modifying our adult bodies and now we decide to do so with unborn babies who have no say of their own in the matter.

Nobody is perfect. We should care more about the inner person than the superficial. I've seen individuals who were born with what could even be said to be deformities, yet they're amazing and inspiring, doing unbelievable things. Designer babies should never be a thing. It's outright wrong!

I'm glad we think alike, actually people are unable to accept it because they are too delusional these days.

I don't believe perfection exists, although it may seem like we are a design, I believe that each person is unique.

This is so beautiful.
Every design should be respected, everything grows into maturity and perfection even though if we don't attain complete perfection. Thank you for sharing.

I really enjoyed reading through.

Greetings, my friend. It's so true that every parent's first priority is for their children to be healthy and happy. The best things come from within, and appearances often fade. Best regards.
