From a Hive Newbie to Finding My People - A Little About Me and my Hive Journey

Hello everyone, by reading the title you already know what's this post is going to be about. Thanks to @rozioo for bringing it up and @atnazo for inviting me.

So, let's begin!

My name is Zoe and I am currently a school student. I live with my parents and my brother, so we have only four members in our family. What should I tell about myself? I'm really confused lol. So, about my personality, I would say I am an ambivert. Like I do not talk too much or maybe I do sometimes but it varies from person to person. Sometimes, I am really the quietest person you will ever meet, hehe. And sometimes I can talk for hours in a day and the next day I won't be talking at all, it's like my social battery runs out not because I'm avoiding someone. Sometimes, I feel shy or maybe I hold myself back so the other person won't think I am weird or something. And most of the time I just want to sit quietly and do my own thing.

My favourite thing to do is going out, alone or with friends. I don't mind if it's a crowded place because I will be minding my own business. I love to stare at the sky with my glasses of course, I can't see without them (I'm not blind, it's just blurry). At home, I like to tease my brother whenever I can and annoy my mom which I can do the best. Other than that, I love to spend time with my family, most of the time I would force them to watch anime with me. I personally, I like to watch stuffs like documentaries and my favourite genres are psychological thrillers and murder mysteries. I don't know why, maybe I'm planning for something...(I'm joking) 🤣. I am just attracted to toxic stories, like crazy stories that makes you question what is actually happening. I don't like it when there's no twist or plot, I really look at things logically. So, I always want some unexpected twist and a suspicious character and I am interested. 😂 But my taste changes from time to time, nothing is permanent.

I want to become a food vlogger, I like to eat various foods because I love foods. I want to review foods and also travel to different countries to try their authentic foods. It's my dream, hopefully I can achieve it anytime soon.

I am from Bangladesh, and I live in Dhaka, the capital city. There isn't a particular interesting thing which I could share. Dhaka is where I was born and have grown up. My friends, relatives they all live here. All, I hate is the traffics and to be honest, I want to move abroad. Because I love to meet new people and learn about their lives. Also, because of my dream to become a food vlogger.

I joined Hive in 2025, it has been like 1+ year. But don't assume I have been active throughout this whole time. 😂 I had disappeared for around 6–7 months because of some personal issues. And I have been properly active again for around 3–4 months and this time I really want to continue. As I'm a student, I have to do homework and all. I have other responsibilities which make things difficult for me but I am trying to make Hive a regular part of my routine.

I found Hive through a friend who was already an old user of Hive. He had been around since the early days of Hive and he knew that I liked writing, but not online. He suggested that I should use my skills for Hive. To be honest, when I first heard about Hive, I thought it was like the other Web2 platform. And I had zero knowledge about what Web3 or blockchain was. 😂 Yeah, I was a noob.

My friend explained the basics to me and actually became my guide when I started. He is the one who taught me how to write posts, how to use the different tools, what should I write and in which communities I should post. He guided me with everything and I followed him blindly. Because when you are completely new somewhere, you naturally trust the person who brought you there right? That's the same with me.

When he first told me about plagiarism. I was confused about what it was because we never used these terms in real life or on other platforms. So, I didn't even properly know what plagiarism meant before joining Hive. And, that was one of the first thing I learned from here. Sadly, he doesn't use Hive anymore because he became busy in his real life. Like everyone does not have same life and everyone have different priorities. But I'm glad he got me here, before he left. Because of him I have found this amazing place.

What I like about Hive? There are plenty of things, but I will point out a few. Obviously, earning something from Hive matters to me. I won't pretend that I don't need it, I am very raw with my feelings because I'm not that kind of a person who would pretend that "no no, I am not here for any rewards or anything." Because I don't know how to act or lie about something. I know some people are really here because they like to write but you should understand that everyone's financial status isn't the same. Some, people really think of hive as their only earning source which is helping them to lead a better life in real. Also, if I am spending my time like writing and interacting, creating content, then of course it feels good when that effort can also earn something, right? I don't see anything wrong here.

I think it's a personal choice, we shouldn't judge someone. Everyone has different reasons for being here and there's no nothing wrong with admitting that earning is one of them. To be honest, that's not the only reason I am still here. The biggest reason is that keeps me here is because of the people. I have met some kind and wonderful people through Hive. I have made friends who loves me for who I am. They know how fast forward I am and I speak truth without any hesitation. Most of the time I'm on Hive because I want to write something but I end up talking to my friends or reading their post, basically I stay longer because of these amazing people. My friend's are very special for me and they already know who they are, no need to mention them.

On the other side, I can already see people are demotivated because the price of Hive is going down and things aren't looking great financially. Even many people are leaving. But I still wanted to be here because I don't want to lose the people or the positive environment on Hive.

Now let's talk about what I dislike? I will say about the overall thing not about the recent time. Because now we barely have users. I think the biggest problems is that there are many new users on Hive but they don't get support or proper guidance. Also, there are good contents on Hive, but it's difficult for new users to grow and get noticed. Like if someone is spending hours to write and not getting noticed it could be demotivating and they end up leaving. I also think hive is very confusing for newcomers because people don't know what keys are, what is HP or RC, and the curation thing. Before I was confused about those things and gladly I had people to guide me. But someone joining alone could easily feel overwhelmed.

And I feel people do not interact with each other that much, they only interact with the people they knew or recently started to know. But they won't communicate with strangers that much. But a platform becomes much more enjoyable when people don't just publish and leave right? They need to have some conversations with each other.

The last part!

I have successfully managed to bring one person to Hive which is my uncle, @rayhanhiveman. I think many of you know him already. So, he had quit somewhere along the way. But I somehow convinced him to come back and he has been active again. Well, I can count that as one successful recruitment, I guess?

Another thing, I have tried to bring one of my hive friend back which is @seki1, he was inactive for quite some time because his real-life schedule became too busy. But he came back and promised me that he would try to post at least three times a day. I am not sure whether he will actually manage that with his schedule 😂, but I am happy that he is back.

I want to bring more people to Hive in the future. Not everyone enjoys writings so it's hard to convince people to be here. I just don't want to bring people who would just create an account and disappear after a week.

In conclusion, Hive isn't perfect but the people I have met here are a big reason why I am still around. And I think that is enough.

Thanks for your story @zoe01 !

This is a big problem, many people just writing post and leave or they just making comments, because they are not good writers.

In the past I was lazy I just played Splinterlands, Golem Overlord and when I just visited hive blog I just throwing votes 100% each and then I just back for doing my things, still I was able to recover my vote power, because my activity was low few comments and votes that's it.

But after months I decided back to writing and I started not only write my posts, but talking too with people and of course I rewarded them for their time and engagement, but after few weeks of being very active my vote power just goes down to barely 40% haha. I realized that I voted for almost 80 posts and even more comments in just a week. Now I'm trying to recover some vote power, but this is not easy task, when I like to talk much and reward people in the same time xD 😆

Hehe, I totally get you! 😂 Being active and rewarding everyone really does eat up the voting power fast. But honestly, it’s great to see you enjoying the interaction so much. Hope your VP recovers soon! ❤️ Thank you for the support 😊 🫶🏻

u bring Hive is definitely confusing for new members, and I know we should do more to support them. I think some of the issue is that it's easy to get into a bubble of existing friends, and also to get very cynical and assume a new Hiver is just someone using AI to generate posts purely to make money rather than a real person. I guess my question is.... how can we solve it, apart from regularly going out to look for new people posting ?

(Edited)

From my pov I think a lot of new users r coming from Web2 platforms where stealing content or using AI is normal so, they may not realize that things work differently on Hive. They might not even know that using someone else’s content without credit is considered stealing or fully AI-generated content will not be viewed positively by Hivers. So, I feel that instead of immediately assuming they r here to make money, we should give them some guidance and explain how things r here. Most of them may simply be behaving the way they r used to on Web2.

Also, I think we could have a small community where only new Hivers can introduce themselves and meet others. That way, people wouldn't have to feel like they r knocking on a closed door. Even a few regular interactions with established members could make a big difference.

Me gustó mucho leerte, Zoe.

Hehe, I'm glad you liked my honesty. Many people wouldn't like it though 😅. But I just can't pretend to be something I am not. Thank you for the appreciation and sorry for the delayed reply. 🫶🏻

¡Hola, Zoe! Un saludo inmenso desde Venezuela. 🇻🇪

Me encantó leer tu historia.
