We are living in a strange era where the current generation, despite having all information available for free, chooses ignorance.

I was reading @apineda's post titled Medical misinformation can also kill (La desinformación médica también puede matar), a story I was already familiar with. It raises the same question for me: how can someone publish content that could be dangerous to others?

The worst part is that this person isn't the only one. There are others, too—like the young woman who consumed nothing but fruit and, tragically, died as a result.

We often see content online that is detrimental to people's physical and mental health. But there is a reason for it all.

It serves the interests of governments and the elite

Let’s be honest.

Societal decline works to the advantage of governments and the elite.

We can confirm this thanks to Jacob Coxon, who resigned from Anthropic and stated: The people building AI sincerely believe it could kill us all by the end of the decade.

Sure, Zul, but you can't confirm that governments and the elite are scoundrels just based on what a former employee says.

However, there is something even more interesting: everything happening on a global scale. Companies polluting our planet; drinking water being used to cool AI servers; organizations meant to safeguard human rights simply sitting at a table playing poker while sipping expensive tea.

That is why governments and the elite do not seek to censor dangerous content on the web. Because it does not serve their interests. Censorship is applied only to what threatens governments and the elite.

In countries like Venezuela, people have had to seek other alternatives

I must also add that, regrettably, in countries like Venezuela, people have had to seek other alternatives to cope with their illnesses.

Hospitals sometimes have medicines, and at other times they do not. Patients with AIDS, cancer, diabetes, and other conditions suffer the consequences of the government's abysmal management, which undermines public health—denying people the right to health, a fundamental right.

This drives people to place their trust in good-for-nothings who have barely a single functioning brain cell—people who do not care about the harm they might cause to others.

People have stopped doing their own research because everything is right at their fingertips

Something happens to human beings when they are offered conveniences: they simply accept them, get used to them, and stop worrying about anything else because they don't need to.

A prime example is the use of AI. People use it to conduct research, generate images, write texts, and more.

You don't need to think too hard if an AI can write an essay for you. You don't even need to read, because the AI ​​provides a summary.

I write my own posts on Hive, but I’ve noticed that some people on Hive Blog publish content created by AI.

You need money, yet you don't want to make even the slightest effort. Making money that way is easy; in fact, you can find countless videos on YouTube about it.

The problem is that we get used to things being quick and easy. Consequently, when we don't get the results we expected, we become frustrated.

We even limit ourselves by failing to think, question, or critique.

The biggest problem is that all of these things—including criticism—are necessary.

It’s okay to think differently, to have your own opinion, and to sit and philosophize for a while.

The truth is, governments won’t do anything. Neither will organizations; they care little about what’s happening—otherwise, they wouldn’t keep stifling young people, a situation that also contributes to low birth rates.

But we are the ones who can, must, and do take action:

• By not supporting, watching, sharing, commenting on, or "liking" harmful content. The best approach is to report it directly.

• By using AI less. Not only do you save a huge amount of water by cutting back on its use, but reading, researching, and doing things from scratch also offer greater health benefits.

• By going to the doctor. Yes, we know about the pharmaceutical industry—I criticize it myself. But we also have to be realistic: medicine exists thanks to years of research that have improved people's quality of life. Take care of yourself; be mindful and responsible.

• By not choosing two-bit politicians (you need to dig into their pasts—even the dark parts—before voting) and by not supporting public figures who promote dangerous content that harms health. Because make no mistake: those people know exactly what they are doing and the message they are sending.

• Criticize all you want. Form your own judgment. Social criticism is necessary; we need to think more and truly start becoming aware of what is clearly not right.

To be honest, I think I could use a worse insult, but I promised myself I’d stop swearing.

Beyond that, I think it’s necessary to take a close look and reflect on everything happening in our society.
