Residential Urbex; The station that was.

avatar

I very rarely travel on public transport with the great unwashed But as I was going on the lash in Shrewsbury I guess needs must. Thing is it’s difficult to switch off, luckily I didn’t as I spotted this little beauty.

I had a rough idea where I was and it didn’t take me long on maps to find it when I recovered the following afternoon!!

The station stands in the middle of nowhere on a country lane, part of what was the Shrewsbury and Chester Railway, The Shrewsbury and Chester Railway Company (S&CRC) was formed in 1846, following a merger of the North Wales Mineral Railway and the Shrewsbury,Oswestry and Chester Junction Railway.

It had a passenger terminal as well as a goods shed, which was set off to one side of the railway. In 1854 the line became part of the Great Western Railway, It closed in the 1960s, and the station building has been used as a residential dwelling for sometime since then.

Approaching off a country lane I had a mooch round the outbuildings.this place has to win the competition for most ornate windows in a shed

Access was pretty tight, small window into the downstairs bog, foot straight through the rotten floorboards, With the other leg still hanging out the window oh the predicament, yeah ended up on my arse, nicely scrawped shin thank you very much.

Down the passage to the kitchen took my weight, floors were solid nothing of real interest to see

Back up the passage more rotten floors to contend with in the parlour, very big room must have been a bugger to heat in the winter

Let’s take a cautious look upstairs without coming through the ceiling

I shared this location with a fellow well known and trusted explorer, he went for a mooch 3 days later, when he shared his snapshots, he confirmed the following 3 items were no longer there, they had been stolen along with the Bentley bonnet insignia that were on the downstairs fireplace.

That's a station? I couldn't tell from the first pic. I thought it was a residence really close to the tracks.

It almost looks like someone lives there.

Forget the cruise's Pammy, pay the bills. I think she did a runner.
Was getting out any easier, or did the other leg suffer?

Getting out always seems easier, even though you can think sometimes, 'how the fuck am I going to get out'. It has happened.

Yet another great old place. Yet again some of the bits 'n' bobs left about the place are quite random!

I know notice of arrears and cruise holiday books! I always enjoy finding all these old bits and pieces

Nice little find. Reminds me of the tiny little abandoned station I found in a quiet little corner of our town.

Looked like something out of the Victorian era. Managed to get one blurry picture of it ( which disappeared).

The next summer, it was gone. It would have been a beautiful relic had it been restored.
