Transamerica Pyramid

Whats your favorite high rise building? The Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco would have to be up there for me. Designed by architect William Pereira in 1972 it was the eighth-tallest building in the world reaching a height of 853 feet (260 m). This shot was taken on a Canon EOS 50D, with a Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM at ISO 400 , Focal Length 19.0 mm (30.1 mm in 35mm), Aperture f/18, with an Exposure Time of 1/500.

So the ISO is 400 was it because of the low light during the shot? This is totally splendid if you ask me, I don't know any tall building but I was just checking out how high it was an my goodness, it's stunning. Amazing take.

I took this shot a long time ago; ISO 400 prob because I had it fixed on 400 shooting at street level and I forgot to change it when looking up to the bright building. Hence the f18 which is overkill to get the DOF I needed. ISO 100 and F8 to F12 would have been sufficient and more in the sweet spot for that lens.

Okay I get, it was fixed at 400 but your forgot to switch it, it was sufficiently stunning too, but who knows what difference it could have made should you have changed it wow.

TBH on this resolution you would not notice any difference. If you printed a large wall print you would see slightly sharper on f8, ISO100 then f18, ISO 400.

I used to work on the either the 32 or 42nd floor (I forget which). Worst job I ever had, but nice enough building.

Nice shot. I used to be a bicycle messenger in SF in late 90's/early 2000s... I know that view all too well. Quite a photogenic city full of contrasts SF is...

Yes certainly full of contrast; architectural and social.

It certainly is... just a go a few blocks in almost any direction and you're in an entirely different scene.

Ah yes would be nice. That water isn't warm however hehe. I'm a sailor as well. Grew up sailing on the Chesapeake and Indian River Bays.

No water is freezing on the west coast.

Here is the best way to appreciate the nature and building structures.
