More Edibles!

Today I found my first bolets, thanks to the encouragement from fellow steemian and new acquaintance @sketch.and.jam. If you are interested in mushrooms check him out he has lots of good content!

These are Bay Bolets and they are amazing! You can eat them fresh or cooked. Since they were my first bolets I was nervous because they turned a little dark when cut but when I did a little research I was certain they were good for eating!

For today I decided to make a mushroom omelet. I had way too many mushrooms so I am not quite sure what to do with the left overs yet. Maybe try some soup?

So good! A little too much oil but very tasty! Next time I will use cheese too!

Cooking is pretty foreign to me but with the help of the wild edible mushrooms I am eager to learn to be a better cook! I hope you are all not sick of my mushroom posts, but I am really enjoying sharing it with you!

Wow that is a great haul 🍄. You can dry the rest, people say that drying them actually brings out more flavor when you cook them. @qwerrie may know some good recipes for these since he's found a few. Your cooking with eggs is definitely a good way to get the isolated taste of the mushroom itself.

The woods is full! I only grabbed a handful because I don't have my phone to verify that's what they were. I think I will go back tomorrow with a backpack and dry a bunch out. These were so delicious unbelievable and you feel good too!

My go to method of preparing shrooms for freezing to eat later is to fry them up in butter, if that's how I eat them, and then to freeze them. Puffballs I make spaghetti sauce of, so I just make the sauce and freeze it. A. ponderosa I just freeze after slicing them up, and then put them in a stir fry just long enough to thaw the out.

That's the only mushroom I don't cook before freezing, though. As you learn how mushrooms respond to various cooking methods, freezing, drying, and etc., you will find how you prefer to prepare them.

I am not tired of mushroom posts. That's why I'm here =)

Thanks!

Awesome, I will have to try that out with freezing them. I love searching for, finding, and eating mushrooms I just have to come around to the cooking part. There is something about cooking food that you got yourself; shrooms, fish, deer, etc that make it much more enjoyable. Puffballs would be amazing in spaghetti sauce! That I will definitely try out.

Thanks, so much for your comment! I was out today but didn't really find anything. The new spot, but I think it's promising.

I think that something is being an integral part of the natural world, something a Big Mac does not deliver with it's tasty sauce.
