[ANIME: HAIKYUU!] Karasuno Appreciation Post Part 2/4: Here Comes The Second Years!

And of course, as the title of this post suggests, I am going to share the second part of my Karasuno Appreciation Post. If you missed the first one, feel free to CLICK HERE to check it out.


The first post was for the third years, and now, I'd like to introduce to you the awesome second year members of Karasuno High School Volleyball Club!

Even though some of these boys didn't have a lot of screen time in the anime, I really admire the bond they have with each other. There was a scene perhaps in the second season where Daichi asked them to talk with each other about who the next captain of the team would be after the third years graduate.

That scene with all five of them was really good and you get to see how close they are to each other.And so, let's try to get to know them one by one.

Nishinoya Yuu

Here's the Guardian Deity of Karasuno. The spikers need not worry whenever they face great and solid walls and miss their spikes because Noya will always be at their back to support them. He is such a talented libero and what I like most about him is that he's so humble. Despite the fact that he's gifted, he still tries his best to improve and help his teammates.

Even though he is somehow considered a genius in the field of volleyball, he's the other half of the idiotic second year pair. He's not into studying, so his academics can be at risk if he focuses too much on volleyball. Also, I strongly believe that he and Akashi swapped bodies. LOL Although he has a smaller stature than the others, he is among the most aggressive characters in the anime. He's such a ball of sunshine!

Tanaka Ryuunosuke

Say hello to Karasuno's "Other Ace". He is the other half of the idiotic second year pair. All that's in his mind are volleyball and Kiyoko. Well, he's actually not wasting his time. winks Anyway, I really like this character because he's oozing with positivity. Whenever the team or someone in the team is having some trouble, he's always there with his arms wide open to help. He might look like a yankee, but he's the most adorable yankee there is!

In games, he's also very reliable. As I've said earlier, he's the other ace. As a fellow wing spiker, he can spike cross and straight with such amazing power. Well, although at times he plays more on instinct than using his mind. Nevertheless, he's one of the characters I admire in the series.

Ennoshita Chikara

The future captain! As I mentioned in the intro earlier, the second years were tasked by Daichi to think among themselves as to who's going to be the next captain. And everyone unanimously agreed to choose Ennoshita. Aside from the fact that he's very reliable, he has this certain supremacy to rule over the other members. I mean, they are scared of him because it's as if Ennoshita knows what they're thinking.

Although he has left the team once in the past, he courageously came back and played volleyball again. He might not be in the regular spot, but the team believes in him. When Daichi was once injured in a game, he became the substitute and executed his "captainly" duties. He knows and accepts that he isn't as good as Daichi, but this frustration will help him to improve in the future.

Narita Kazuhito

Narita is like a breath of fresh air. He's always very calm that it makes you feel relaxed as well. Even though he doesn't have a lot of appearances, he's also very useful to the team. He cheers for them from the sidelines and helps everyone during practice.

There was one time when he substituted Hinata in a game because he's more accustomed to Sugawara's playing/setting style. That time, he proved to everyone that he, too, can help the team on its way to success.

Kinoshita Hisashi

Here's another cinnamon roll for everyone! Kinoshita is so cute, especially when he's too nervous that his heart comes out from his mouth. haha He's also a member of Karasuno's unofficial cheering squad. lol In the latter part of the series, he started training how to do a jump float serve.

I suppose that aside from Ennoshita and Narita, he's also pretty close to Noya because they often train together. He helps Noya in his overhand receives. He was also tasked to be a inch server in some official games in the series.

Much like the third years, these people also went on different paths after the time-skip. They have all been members of society and one of them is even married.

Ennoshita is now a physical therapist. Narita is an employee in a realty firm. Kinoshita is working for a train company. Though the three of them are separated, when they watched a volleyball game between their former teammate, they still went there together. <3

As for Tanaka, he is now a personal trainer and is happily married to the woman of his dreams, to his one and only goddess, Kiyoko. Noya, on the other hand is exploring the world. It took some time for him to appear in the manga, but when he did, he was in some place in Italy and is fishing. Well, he kept in touch with the others, especially with Asahi, though.

All in all, I am happy to introduce the second year members of Karasuno. Not all of them are regular players or are often shown in the series, but I love all of them. They have their own charm and I'm glad that they exist in the story.
