Let's Talk About "HATARAKU MAOU-SAMA" (ANIME TALK 011)

In this post, I want to talk about an anime which is called "Hataraku Maou-sama".

The Japanese word 働く(Hataraku) means "to work", while 魔王 (Maou) translates to demon. Basing on these meaning, the anime title literally translates to "Working Demon".
The English title of this anime is "The Devil is a Part-timer". From the title alone, you can somehow imagine what the anime is all about. YES, in this anime you'll get to see the "Dark Lord Satan" working at a fast food chain called "MgRonalds". lol
Now, how did it happen?

The picture above is Sadao Maou. He's the human form of the Dark Lord Satan.
Before he arrived on earth as a powerless human, it was said that he attacked a certain place called "Ente Isla" with his demon armies.
I used "it was said" because I actually don't know whether he asked his armies to do so, or it was just his armies' discretion to spread havoc over the place.
However, in the later part of that scene, the Dark Lord Satan was forced to retreat due to the pursuance of the Hero Emilia. Upon his retreat, he entered a portal together with his loyal general "Alsiel". The said portal led them to the modern day Tokyo where they were transformed into their human forms with a great decrease in power. Well, Alsiel couldn't use his powers at all.

Due to their powerlessness, they were forced to live just like ordinary humans. He started working at MgRonalds while Alsiel tried to find ways through researching in the library and stuff to get their power/get back to their world.
The Dark Lord Satan aka Maou also realized that he wants to conquer earth by climbing up the corporate ladder! lol He might be a mere part-timer for now, but he's diligently performing his tasks at work.

On earth, he met the hero Emilia which is also in her human form. The fallen angel Lucifer also tried to destroy his human form and tried to hurt humans, but he was able to gather his power by absorbing fear from humans... and he used his power to help others.
Because of this, the hero Emilia is dumbfounded and got more curious about the him. More information about the havoc at Ente Isla were revealed which made him, the hero Emilia, Alsiel, Lucifer,etc to work together to save humans.
For now, it's difficult for them to get back to Ente Isla and more threats may come their way. However, I'm positive that the Dark Lord Satan will soon achieve his goals starting with receiving the "Employee of the Month" award. haha
What Can I Say About It?
Well, it's not among my favorites but Hataraku Maou-sama has a certain charm in it. The art style both for the Ente Isla characters and the human version is really amazing. The story in itself is unique. The comedic side to it is pretty much entertaining and the battles portrayed in the anime are also praise-worthy.
If one asks me whether I'd watch the second season (if ever there is), the answer would definitely be "YES". I actually hope for season 2 to be realized because I'm very curious whether he'd get awards and promotions. lol
If you're into comedy, supernatural, action type, romance type of anime... then Hataraku Maou-sama might be for you. (^_^)/
