Sept. 17, 21: Routine, Oculus, Garage Putzing, TV, and Games
Got to bed a bit later than usual last night, but slept through nearly till seven, so only about a half an hour short. Sleep has been really good lately, got to be happy about that.
Got all my teaching done for the week, so started off the long weekend. Not much going on during the usual morning routine. Cryptos still boring and my DeFi is still getting slaughtered, so trying just to peek at it occasionally and then try more or less to forget about it.
Chatted, or rather argued, about vaccines over in the Bro Doscord. Was an interesting conversation for a while, but then a certain someone started chiming in…doesn’t matter what I say, wants to take exception, contradict, and throw in some unnecessary vulgarity just to be an asshole. I was going to block him, but then Discord looks weird. Instead, I just leave…no point in talking to him and even less getting aggravated about it.
After I got my post done for the day, I had to decide what to try and accomplish. BUT, what I wanted to do was play some more Star Wars on the Oculus. I played for a little over an hour, so not really that long. Just did some of the shorter challenges in the cantina and workshop areas.
Got a sandwich for lunch and then figured I really should mow the lawn. Went out to the garage, filled the mowers up with gas, and then started loading up some metal in boxes and putting them in my car to get put back.
As I was doing that, yet another thing/project was there in the way: the pressure washer. It hasn’t run in years and years. I’ve kept it, though, because we have plenty that can be washed with it (like the house siding that looks all green with moss). It was my mom’s and, maybe, five years ago? Probably something like that, I tried to start it and couldn’t.
At the time, I put in new gas, checked the spark plug (which seemed fine), and fired starting fluid into the intake…no go. Mom has been intending to schedule an appointment to have a guy fix it, and so it’s sat. I saw it and thought: “If you can’t fix that little engine, what makes you think you can fix this car?” So I started working on it. (Never did get to mowing the lawn.)
I remembered what I’d tried when I tied to start it, so figured, since it wasn’t catching, it may very well be something with the fuel system…was hoping at least. If it had been electrical, like the switch or the magneto, it would have been much harder to diagnose and fix.
Drained out the old fuel that was still sitting in the tank 😱 and started taking the carburetor off. When I pulled out the plug holding the bowl on it was all clogged with copper-oxide corrosion junk. Now, I wasn’t sure if that was the problem, but it surely would be a problem! Engine certainly won’t run if it’s not getting any fuel through the carburetor!!!
Disassembled it and used the dental tools I’ve been using on the car to get all the crud out and make sure the Venturi was clear. The bottom of the bowl also had that corrosion on it, so I went after it hard with some serious grit sandpaper and then powered up the air compressor and blew all the channels out.
One of the gaskets had been installed backwards at the factory and wasn’t properly sealed, so turned that around and straightened it and then put everything back together.
I still had a bit of gas, but I wanted to use fresh, so walked down and got a couple gallons at the station. Opened the fuel valve and took the drain plug off the carburetor and poured some gas in to see if the line was plugged or anything. Nope, came through no problem and flushed it out.
I had no idea if it would start yet, so I only put a little gas in it (didn’t want to waste if it didn’t start) and you aren’t supposed to run it without a water connection or else you can damage the pump, so I really didn’t have any intention of trying to start it yet.
I was curious, though, to see if the starter would even pull. Pulled it, slowly, about two clicks and the bad boy started right up! 🤩🥳🤯 Shut it off right quick, called mom to tell her that I’d fixed it and got it running, and then had to see whether it would actually function properly.
Went out to the shed and got another hose out, hooked ‘er up, fired up the engine again no problem, and booya! She sprays!!!
Used it for a bit to spray down some of the siding that I could reach and then called it a pretty satisfactory victory! Plus, that makes me feel that much more confident about the car (as well as hopefully raising the confidence of my mom and wife that I can do it too)!
When Wenche got home she made us some leftover steak and rice for dinner and we watched some more MacGyver and I swore at Splinterlands until bedtime.
Fifty minus five is forty-eight. dShitty math at its finest! At least I get a couple more SIM rather than a couple fewer, I suppose.
Still not a lot happening on CryptoBrewmaster. Got one ingredient going, but it wasn’t one of the ones that I need, so still two ingredients remaining before I can brew.
Mostly did some missions today on Rising Star. My Ego was a little better, so trying to build some more Starbits again. Although I felt alright about my progress at the beginning (and I recognized that I got a relatively late start), it’s plateaued to such a degree that I really don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere anymore.
I do think one of the major differences is the minutes played, but I refuse to be a slave to it, especially when logging in is such a pain in the ass.
Played more Splinterlands today than I really would have liked to. Kept losing, though, and couldn’t seem to get my quest done.
Luckily, though I did lose some rank, it wasn’t terrible by the end.
Had Death splinter for my quest today and got it done still in Gold III. I did buy a few more of the new green rewards card to get it to level 3.
