Grace And Elegance In Stainless Steel

avatar

Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!

As many of you know, I've been finding wire sculptures to share on my posts and I found a new artist(at least to me) that deserves his own post. He's from the U.K. and his name is Martin Debenham.

He works with stainless steel wire and produces absolutely stunning masterpieces. Here are a few of them.

Minimalist perfection:

Check out this amazing Mermaid:

Most of his work is designed to be in natural settings like this gorgeous eagle:

Look at the perfect shaping of the wire:

Martin is an expert welder, look at the perfect welds:

He also does "Portraits."

This is a self portrait:

Here's a wall hanging:

To me this one looks like a wisp of smoke rising:

The design variety is endless:

Mr. Debenham didn't go to art school, he's self taught! I call it a natural gift. It'll be interesting to see his work continue in the future.

Thanks for stopping by folks, God bless you all!

PS- Have ya'll seen the new Terminator movie trailer yet? The franchise is going back to it's roots with James Cameron directing like he did for the first two.

And Linda Hamilton is back as the kick-ass Sarah Connor. Linda is 63 years old now but in incredible shape.

2 great trailers:

Beautiful work. Another artist you might like, Harry Bertoia. He did all kinds of wire art also he made these amazing gongs and chimes. I know his daughter well and had the fortune of meeting his wife a few times. She would ring this gigantic gong that was mounted above his grave every year on his birthday and I was fortunate to be present at one of these ceremonies, very cool.

Howdy sir hhayweaver! Good to see you! Very interesting, is his artwork on a website somewhere? Are you posting these days?

Not posting these day, just curating and commenting.
Here is a link to an interesting article I found.
https://www.nprillinois.org/post/sound-sculptor-harry-bertoia-created-musical-meditative-art#stream/0
Here is another link - lots of info.
https://harrybertoia.org/
The sound sculptures are truly amazing. I was fortunate enough to get a tour through his studio to see and hear his art. There was this one "gong" is was like a large rectangular sheet of metal that had been hammered into a wavy shape. You tapped (you didn't his it hard) on it repeatedly, rather quickly with this relatively small mallet. At first you did not hear anything, maybe for the first 10 - 15 seconds, then a very low rumble started to come from the metal sheet that built into an extremely loud roar (like a lion), almost hurt your ears, then the sound was gone in an instant, just like that.
That barn was full of many amazing pieces of art, not just his sound sculptures but quite a few wire sculptures, sheet metal sculptures, and paintings, truly awesome. I hope you enjoy learning about Harry.

Howdy squirrelbait! I agree about the artwork, it's stunning. I bet Eagle Eyes could do that, he might have to brush up on his welding. lol. I know. You design them and he could weld them up. This guys sells his for about 6 grand apiece, I forgot to mention that.

6 grand a piece. Yeah, I believe it. Cost of the metal and tons of time. Yeah, I believe it. Unique and unique is always valuable.

Can you imagine the patience it must take to build something like that? I know art isn't supposed to be quick or easy, but that's just impressive.

Howdy sir wwwiebe! I know, I don't know how he gets it into perfect position in order to weld it either because metal moves when you heat it and weld on it so it has to stay in position or he molds it into perfect shape afterwords. Either way it's incredible and mine would look like a jumble of shiny wires!

Those are amazing steel wire arts. I once tried to make a heart shape with a wire and it ended up looking frightening. I'm not very good at bending things I guess.

Simplicity in the designs turns them into great artworks here Sir @janton.
The tac welding is also neat and tidy and of course stainless steel is a very durable metal that can last longer than most other metals.
A lovely post here.
Blessings!

I can see the African artists making lions and elephants out of stainless steel wire!

Haha! I don't think so Sir @janton, as the gas welding equipment for stainless steel is very expensive. Plus aspirant welders need to be specially trained as it's an intricate trade.
Much cheaper for them to continue with a set of pliers and wire.
Blessings!

Except that stainless steel wire which is so beautiful is probably also very expensive but I don't know how much it costs. I've never worked with it. But it might be out of their price range unless they can steal some. I shouldn't have said that last sentance but it seems to be a way of life there!

Hahaha, you are learning Sir @janton.
Only problem with SS wire is that they would have to explain where they got it with hardcopy receipts.
I cannot see them building a beautiful duck with SS wire and spending 5 years in prison as payment hahaha

Oh! I see, wow. Well at least the laws are trying to stop the stealing.

Howdy Janton! I see you fund another wire artist; very impressive, especially that eagle. Looks like this wire is even harder to work with too.

And Terminator is back with the two major movie stars, wow! Linda Hamilton is one of very few who doesn't believe in plastic surgeries, yet, still in perfect shape. Good for her!

I think she was always smart, but as she got older she realized she is just fine being a single, just like me, lol.

By the way, here is an other veteran, Jane Fonda! Protesting and getting arrested again. Listen to her interview, very insightful!

Nice work! That eagle is really impressive. I wonder howm uch those things weigh. It looks like he uses a pretty heavy gage wire on some of them. I would certainly avoid standing next to one in a thunderstorm!

I did find one photo of my "wire sculpture." The Benedictine Sisters I worked for about seven years ago had a collection of nativity sets that they put on display every Christmas. Since fridays were slow, I grabbed a bunch of pipe cleaners and made another set for them. The photo isn't great (had a crap camera at the time), but you can sort of see the baby in the crib. If you squint. Hard. The following year, I made a bunch of animals and the three kings... lol

Somehow, I don't think my work is in as much demand as that of the artist in your post! :-)

Sir janton can i ask you something when you use photos from the internet or google you put below the photo "source " and it comes up in blue to indicate that it is not your photo how do you do that what symbols do you use ??

Yes, maybe when you retire and you have more time sir hangin, if you can find time between the cruises and beach parties. lol.

Oh, yes the source of the photo thing. You just put [source] (myurl.com) except without the space between the brackets so that it comes out like this source

And if you want to center that source word and url you just put < center> on the left side of it and < /center> on the right side except with no spaces after the <.

The only problem I have with some of those shows are their accents are so thick that I can't understand what they're saying but I'll take a look at it!
