Cry, please
Acrylic and marker on paper
21,5 x 25 cm

Did you know that I am a vegetarian? I do not eat meat since my teenage years, I never liked it so it was no real sacrifice to stop eating it. I even went vegan for some years as I find it extremely difficult to hurt any beings. But my view of the world is distorted: I am one of these pampered city dwellers who romanticize nature. In my mind all beings (and yes I talk of stones too) are animated and I do not mean this in a philosophical way – which would also be a tad outdated – no, I honestly think mud clods, clouds or rabbits are super cute and secretly talk with anime-like voices which each other. If I do not look, they reveal their real nature, puffing up with colors and fluff, jumping around ready to be cuddled.
Yes, I know. You do not need to tell me.

How it started

Today I wanted to dwell in colors and to play and paint, so I fetched some of my half-finished artworks and started to varnish them, so that I later could sketch with an marker on them. (I learned the hard way, that the varnish must be applied before I use any kind of marker, as the varnish will dissolve the marker lines 😱😱😱)
But I was so impatient that I could not wait for the varnish to dry. I could feel my heart beating faster with the desire to do something, to sketch, to create … So, I fetched an older scrap of paper with dirty pouring rests. I took a hard look and saw the poor cow. There she was, half dead hanging in the left corner.
Cry, please, as I do.

Materials and process

The base layer of this painting is made with acrylic paint, a pouring medium and drops of silicone. I poured the paint into a big tub and pressed the paper on the paint. After the painting was dry, I applied a layer of varnish and let it dry again. Next step was to sketch the cow and the crane truck with a permanent marker.
After I was finished with the sketch, I applied some white paint to highlight parts of the cow’s body and changed the background into the diffuse golden space you can see now. Last touches were the letters which are applied in about three layers from gold to red.

Beautiful, I love the way it started with that big bubbly looking pour, it almost seems metallic! I have included this post in my weekly curation Ocean of Art!

Thank you so much for featuring my „dead cow“ I am not sure if I included metallic paint into the pouring... but you are right it looks like this. I first wanted to use the pour as a starting point and form it into hair... but then I saw the cow in the left corner... Strange how perception works.
