Lower Class Living in Thailand !!

avatar

Today i took a walk into the heart of Bangkok city but for some reason i didn't want to be walking around the city , i just wasn't finding it exciting enough looking at shopping malls and skyscrapers , i wanted to get of the tourist track and onto the beaten track to meet some locals and see they way locals really live there lives so i ducked of into a side street from the main road and this led me to a old wooden bridge and just over the was this long pathway which i couldn't even see the other end so of course my curiosity had to take me down this never ending pathway.

I was quite surprised to find this long pathway directly behind the main road of the city center and was excited to see what i would see along this pathway first of i came upon this coconut tree laying across this dirty smelly canal but looking at these baby coconuts blooming so close up made me forget about the smelly canal.

Luckily i did have my mask with me and which dampened the smell a bit from this fifty raw sewerage canal , i was still determined to move on despite the fact of the smell only because there still was some beauty and exciting things to see along this never ending long pathway.

DSC05550.JPG

As i moved along all i could see was the city skyscrapers on one side of the pathway and empty lots on the other side were maybe a huge complex of houses or factories had been demolished and clear away and then , i came across some other old wooden and tin shacks and couldn't believe my eyes or imagine how people could even live right on a raw sewage canal passing by them it was sad to see this was not lower class but poverty.

Continuing further along the smelly canal disappeared under the pathway that i was walking along and some how the smell had gone with it so i was able to take my mask of a breath a lit better as the day was so hot i was finding it difficult to breath with the heat and the mask on.

I started to see the more lower class houses stretching across the city as far as i could see some that were been kept with some maintenance and others that probably couldn't afford to keep them maintained.

It was very interesting but sad to see the stretch of these house on both sides of this pathway and then further in the distance was the rich owners of all them skyscrapers a truly unbalanced world we live in.

Every few hundred meters along this pathway were some staircases which would led you down to the houses , shops or them awesome street vendors and the day was that hot that i needed to step down and grab a cold bottle of water and take a look at the locals way of living closer up.

Taking the next staircase down of the pathway , i was now walking along side the pathway which was above me now , i came to this shop front grabbed myself a couple of bottles of cold water one didn't touch the sides as i drunk it and the other one was for the road ahead.

Bajemkik%20and%20Lumpini%20Park%20-%20S9%20-%20May%202020%20322.jpg

The street vendors were all lined up along this street all selling there amazing stick foods , barbecue chicken pieces and many more yummy Thai dishes all done with a smile.

Bajemkik%20and%20Lumpini%20Park%20-%20S9%20-%20May%202020%20325.jpg

This is under the pathway and that smelly canal continues through the center of these lower class houses and who knows where it ends.

Bajemkik%20and%20Lumpini%20Park%20-%20S9%20-%20May%202020%20324.jpg

After my little break i climb up to the pathway and continue my journey this pathway was about 8 km long and it led me out to that beautiful park in the heart of Bangkok city called Lumpini Park so i am very pleased in taking that side street 8 km back cause this was a real experience of everyday Thai culture people living in the lower class and i found them all friendly and welcoming.

Every society has its classes. The gate before the path makes me think maybe it used to be private before.

This is true it's like this all around the world unfortunately. Actually they close the gate of at a certain time at night for security purposes.

It must be quiet and soothing to talk a walk there. Also aren't there some gangs in bangkok?

I'm glad you took that path toward the poorer end of town. We often go to these countries to visit but sometimes never get the opportunity to see what you saw that day. And even with all the poverty, these people can very often be so friendly. You must have slept well that night after that very long walk. Great post.

These are the places which tourists will never see unless they get lost, and I think I wouldn't want to get lost there at night, because then the friendly people will all be asleep ;)

Very good article of this area with lots of pictures showing us how our tourist destinations look behind the curtain.

Have a great day and week, @bigsambucca 😊

It is good to make aware of how the different classes of people live in other countries and this is something i like to see when i am in different countries but your right it's not a area you would want to be walking around at night.

Thanks for your nice comment and you have a great week to 😊

You know that I am with you on venturing out to the road less traveled and see where the other people live. It is true that every country has a society that is less than able to live above the poverty line, but, there are some countries that have more than others.

The line between rich and poor is vast. Seems like there is no middle class. I am sad for those that live along with the raw sewage. Many times, when in these predicaments, there is no way out that is affordable. The housing has been in the family for generations.

I am always fascinated by the wiring that they have. Can you imagine trying to fix that?

The lower level of your walk was much nicer, although, it was commerce. That is probably why. I have been to many that have the gates, mostly for their own protection. I even came across in Puerto Rico in a less than nice section. Most excellent post and I love that you just put it all out there for us to see and make out own judgments on it. Thank you!

Thanks for joining!

Thank you @dswigle i love this saying "road less traveled" it would make a nice title heading and i do synthesize also for those people living along the sewage canal but as you say they don't have any choice seeing that makes you think how lucky we are.

There are so many more places i want to get to before work resumes again i still have all of this month to discover more of the the roads less traveled so it will be a pleasure to bring them to you.

Thank you again for your lovely encouraging comments. Thanks for the tip you take care and stay safe be seeing you again soon 😊
