KBS 2017
I’m doing a KBS vertical so you’ll see a few KBS posts coming your way. I’m starting with 2017. This is the oldest bottle I could find in cellar. The label was starting to come off and there was a little dust on the bottle so you know it is going to be good.
Pouring the bottle was interesting because I was a little scared that it was going to be bad. However I was pleasantly wrong. This thing poured like a fresh beer! KBS is dark with a nice caramel head. This faded into a frothy head.
The aroma was more mellow than a fresh bottle. It has a lot more chocolate and barrel notes than what I could remember. I picked up some more earthy wood notes that paired well with the vanilla and malt.
The taste is so smooth. There normally is a huge alcoholic burn, but that’s all faded into a more complex profile. I love the barrel that’s coming through. The woody notes paired well with chocolate, vanilla and malt.
The mouthfeel is thicker and has a lot of syrup characteristics. I’m a fan of this texture, but it may be off putting for some. The later years are definitely thinner which could be because they produced more beer ever year.
I still haven't tired this yet. I really need to. My wife and I were sitting on the deck yesterday and I pulled out a can of Bell's Poolside and opened it up. She was drinking a Hefeweisen we picked up at Trader Joe's and I told her to try mine. She exclaimed that it tasted flat. I looked at the bottom of the can and it was from 2018! I thought it tasted fine :)
Getting started on #BeerSaturday early....
KBS is really smooth. Very complex tasting beer.
Love it, always pick up some bottles when they are released.
I love the look of that !BEER and the slogan, saying "good for everything"I must agree a good STOUT, goes with everything.
I also believe a good beer won't go bad, specially if stored in a dark place and still sealed properly!!
Great looking !BEER
Cheers!!
