The Poet

New Holland Brewing is one of my favorite breweries. With classic offering like Dragon's Milk and Mad Hatter. Another favorite that's not as popular is the Poet stout. This is an opaque, but crystal clear dark brown and ruby stout. There's no crazy additions or barrel aging here. It's a true classic oatmeal stout. When I poured this beer it pours a thinner than some of the bigger stouts. It has a nice tan head that reduced to a thin lacy halo.

This has a beautifully simple aroma. It's primarily milk chocolate, with deeply roasted grains in the background. There's something to be said about not trying to add too much into a beer. I have noticed that some breweries try to pack their beers with so many different flavors that they become unbalanced. This is not the case with this one.

Speaking to that balance the flavor is the perfect amount of milk chocolate and deeply roasted grain. This transitions to a roasted grain and complex brea through the finish. The after taste leaves a mild and long lasting bitterness. I get a bit of sweetness throughout that adds just a bit to the flavor profile.

This is a medium bodied beer. For a stout it's on the thinner side. There is a moderate carbonation that adds to a light and dry finish. Overall, it's a great simple flagship stout. I recommend it!

This looks like something I would like to drink. I am definitely going to have to try it out someday. I tried two new ones the other day. I will do my best to share them with you soon.
