Mountain Goat are one of the mainstays of the craft beer scene in Australia, and arguably the most important craft brewer in the early days of the scene in Melbourne, which is arguably the most important city in the Australian craft beer scene. They are of now owned by the global brewing behemoth Asahi but they still make good beer so I'm not sure i care.

The best of their beers are released as part of the rare breed series, and today we have two of those beers.

First up is Hello Humanoid which is a Double IPA with a theme of invading aliens with suitable artwork on the long neck bottle.

MG2 (1 of 1).JPG

Made with a couple of new hops, sabro and azacca which combine with cascade, columbus and fortnight to give night juicy bite, the hops are nit as aggressive as I would expect for a double IPAand it feels quite thin for a 7.5% beer all in all this is not a scary invading force and I for one welcome our new alien overloads.

Next up, is probably technically a Cross Breed, as it's a colloboration brew with Garage Project (one of they best New Zealand brewers) it is called Horn Please and is a indian themed chilli chai imperial stout.

MG3 (1 of 1).JPG

Pitch black, it smells choclately, way sweeter than I was expecting, this is almost a desert beer, with a milky sweetness at the start of the sip, which is the chai elements, then there is a hint of heat in the aftertaste from the chilli but not enough to overpower the gentle sweetness. A very interesting, balanced brew.

Both these beers are well worth checking out if you see them,
