Short Review

The Manga series of bible stories are all fantastic and this one does not disappoint. While most MANGA books deal with bible stories on earth, this deals almost exclusively with the vision of John on the island of Patmos. Animating the book of Revelation will require some frightening topics and concepts, but my children did well with the book. They recognized that it was a "vision", I'm not sure they understand that this is prophecy of things occurring in the future. As they grow older and study the real text, it will have deeper meaning for them.

The book begins with the demise of many Christians, including Peter crucified upside-down and Paul beheaded in Rome. John is imprisoned and cries out to God asking why all of this is happening... then he is instructed to write to the seven churches in Asia.

When the vision begins, John sees seals, trumpets and bowls of wrath. He sees the dragon, two witnesses, two beasts and a lake of fire and brimstone. If you've never read or studied the book of Revelation, this MANGA will illustrate all of this in graphic detail.

My children (ages 6, 5, 3 and 1) all heard me read this book and saw all the illustrations. They weren't too frightened by it, even though it touches on some sensitive topics. They didn't ask me what a "prostitute" was. The book is fairly short, I completed it in two nights. Total page count is 144 (probably on purpose).
