We just came back from my grandmother's funeral.

Hi!

Like I told so many steemians at the Steemfest, my grandmother passed not a week before our trip to Thailand.

Her funeral was today. I am not religious, but these things tend to make you want to believe in something.

You lived a full life with trials and tribulations,
I'm sure you are fine now, even when it's all over.
We will miss you, and hope we meet again.
Ο ήλιος μπορεί να θέσει, η ζωή συνεχίζεται. Αυτό είναι το τέλος ενός κεφαλαίου, αλλά το βιβλίο είναι ατελές.

You don’t have to be religious in the sense of performing rituals! These rituals are just means to an end, but many people mistake these rituals as the goal in religion.

It’s the spiritual investigation of the nature of mind which requires objective intelligence and meditation that are the keys to unlock many questions and intangible experiences.

Good night, my friend.

All the best.

Sorry for your loss.

The point of rituals like funerals is to mark important milestones and events in our lives. They are a break from the humdrum of everyday life and allow us to look at our lives from a larger perspective. A christening marks the beginning of a life and in a funeral we send off those who have left us and their lives in this world for good.

Belief in some specific deity has nothing to do with this. It goes much deeper. Rituals at the turning points of our lives are part of the universal human existence. Funerals are arranged for the sake of the family of the deceased and the wider community.

Sorry to hear that. I always thougt of the feelings that gripped me at funerals for close relatives that it is feelings older than Christianity. It is like ancestor worship - something about the bond that holds together our lives and sanity. Nothing makes people crazy like bad families, and nothing makes a person whole and strong like having close relatives that he has known and been able to trust all his lives. All the best to you and your family.
