Its not all flowers

I posted a couple of shots in the Photography Community of the back garden, mostly of flowers. However, this random shallow depth shot from my desk is closer to reality.

There is a random assortment of blind hardware, computer blanks, random power supply, etc. I took the image at the time to play with a new lens, and when I imported it I kind of liked it.

There's something about the light and contrast that drew me in.

Life isn't clean

With the prevalence of social media, curating what we show into the world, it is easy to forget what it looks like "out of frame". It's messy. Life isn't clean and straightforward, its a mess.

I have been spending 30min every morning writing. Just writing, there is no specific topic or flow to what I get out, but it helps me start to organize my thoughts and understand what is important for the day.

I used to do this on paper and then garbage it, however I have found that I can type faster these days and use notepad and save the files in a private place. Every once in a while when I am feeling lost I do a simple search of the text files of a word. That word will be what I'm feeling the strongest and usually I will find it in one of those text files.

I read the paragraph, or sentence, and remember how I was feeling then, compare it to how I'm feeling now and usually I don't feel lost anymore. I return to a contentment knowing that this too shall pass and I need to keep going.

It takes a moment to re-orient to what is important, and it may not be easy, but at least there is a path.

Smell the roses

Its important to stop to smell the roses, but its more important to know that you are on the right path.
