Hello lovely Steemians !

Welcome to another day of the Botanical Garden Tours. Today I want to present to you the Thunbergia Erecta, also known as the Clock Vine, or the King's Mantle.

The Thunbergia erecta is a herbaceous perennial climbing plant that is native to western Africa. It grows in shrubs which can get as high as 120 cm . The approximate width to high ratio is 1:1.

The flowers are really beautiful. They can get as long as 6.5 cm and possess five large and deep violet petals with a yellowish-white throat. These flowers posses rather long funnels that become curved-shaped They are also flowering several times per year up to four times.

They are actually super easy to keep in the garden. They are not only tolerant to fully sunny to semi sunny and semi shady places, but also only require a moderate amount of water and are adaptable to nearly every type of soil.

Even temperatures down to 0°C are no problem for the Thunbergia, also the optimal lowest temperature during the winter should not be lower than 7°C. They are really appropriate additions to any terraces or courtyards.

The Leafs of the Thunbergia are arranged in an opposite fashion and shaped elliptic. They are yellowish-green when still young and become medium green and acuminate at the tips when they become mature. In this case they can get as long as 4 cm.
