Sunflowers On The Rocks
Today, I'm taking you back to the Loch aka Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County, Maryland. My photos today were taken back in July. This part of Loch Raven was closed due to a culvert failing and as of last month it was still closed. I also did a few edits on some of my photos but (don't worry) I'll be keeping my post relatively short.
As I walked along the waters edge I happened to see a couple of sunflowers on the rocks and wondered how they got there. The stalks did appear to be cut and I photographed two but saw three sunflowers while I was there.
I wondered if perhaps they drifted in from the water after someone possibly left them in the water as some sort of memorial. It is a sad thing to bring up but unfortunately some people who take their life decide to do it near water. Around most bodies of water here you will see signs on suicide prevention with a phone number to call. I personally knew someone whose family member left this world like that and right here at Loch Raven.
So, as I stood there looking at the sunflowers I couldn't help but get a little teary eyed thinking that they could be there for that reason. Of course, I don't know why they were there and I could very easily come up with several scenarios why they were there in the water.
They were very pretty though sitting there in the water and on the rocks. Maybe someone grew them in their garden and left them in an area near the water for the deer or waterfowl to eat and the wind blew a few down into the water. I think perhaps that is a nicer thing to think of. Two very different scenarios and neither could be correct but both thoughtful none the less! 💖

Thank you very much @shasta!! It does make me sad sometimes to think about the people that left here like that and I guess that is partly because I know the struggle that some were probably going through. I do hope and think that some of those people reached out for help and or worked through what they may have been experiencing. I've come to some theories of my own in recent years but I should probably hold onto those theories for now anyway. Much love to you there in AK!! 💞
