One Mission, Get People Here... Keep People Here

So many opinions about what is good and bad for Steem.

I stole this art, if it is yours let me know and I will send you a few steem! Otherwise sue me.

I refuse to let go of the mission that if you get people here and keep people here an economy develops.

Splinterlands is good for Steem.
BROsino is good for Steem
Casino games are good for Steem.
Jerry Banfield was good for Steem. (until he did that little sucking thing)
SE tokens are good for Steem.
High Inflation is good for Steem.
Steemit Inc is good for Steem.
Even the EIP could be good for Steem if someone spun it. *NewSteem
Curation groups are good for Steem
If we ever get SMTs they will be good for Steem.
Fighting and Drama are good for Steem.
Crying about Downvotes are good for Steem
Shit posts can be good for Steem.

It's all about eyes on the site and transactions.

People having passion and caring is good for Steem.

Some will hate the bots, some will hate the personalities, some with want to wank the chain... (play with math)

I am glad for trolls and fine with Tone Vays saying we are a scam. Please, just say our name.

People like success, people like to be a part of something growing and fun...

I don't care if it is SMTs, SE tokens, Games, Social Networks.. and I sure don't care about promoting the best content.

I want people to come and find their tribe or post their push ups or play their game or dream of riches...

I don't care what floats your boat, float it on Steem.

Shout out to SteemIt Inc for creating interest and getting crypto reporters to say our name!

Investors come where people are gathered. Yes, it really is that simple.

Gather the people, if not the ones we have... New ones.

Only rats jump out of the boat when they feel that the boat can sink; the intelligent seek to see what can be done to prevent it from sinking and save it. Here we continue to do what we know how to do: write. Thank you for this post. ;)

Get People Here... Keep People Here

Is this technically two missions, or is it a two part mission? ;D

I agree that there needs to be an increase of interaction and if that means letting shitposters post, do it. However, they don't need to be rewarded for the shitposts :)

No one deserves rewards. They should be earned.

People do deserve a chance at rewards.

Yeah, I guess my mission has two parts... They both are related to PEOPLE. Not tech, not blockchain, those things are important to a few and they do matter, but most people don't care and are tired of hearing about it.

Tools are tools for people.

I agree with these statements and think that the downvotes are necessary for the direction of the currents for the negotiation of the reward deserved. Plus - Drama ;D

Yep, I'm good with the downvotes.

I think it is silly that grown adults required CODE to protect their own interests... But if that is what they need... I'm okay with that.

Maybe it is just the way we are designed.

It seems that we are quite happy to shit in the environmental bed we have to live in and won't do anything to take care of it even as we die, unless forced. Even then, people don't want to clean up the air and water we breathe and drink.

Humans as a species are long-sight retarded.

I was gonna powerdown two weeks ago. Then I powered up, bought more steem, got one of my @naturalmedicine folk in charge of the facebook account, wrote a daily post, curated, played on steem engine and told my mates about it. Wtf? I was leaving! Who am i kidding! Lol

I will buy when I see us getting and keeping people.

Sometimes.. often.. i think we do two things wrong:

  1. Its bloody confusing to navigate. You need a degree to get the ins and outs. I like this.. its fun, but others dont. I like the flux, the development, the ideas. Others just see.. ooh, i can earn from writing? Then find thats a lie.

  2. It makes a promise about earnings that it cant keep. We know why this is, but i think the strength of this platform is community amd getting to know people. Look if you dont have any money and are trying to earn a buck sure, maybe this place is useless.. but if its ONLY cash you are here for Im not interested in you staying around anyway. I like writing and the connections made more than money. I dont get that on any other platform. Even when i post my poetry on Facebook.. my Mum might comment but 400 odd friends scroll past. Lol. Maybe i should pay them.

Yeah yeah I know all the other failings but to me they come under the other 2 points above.

@riverflows: I very much agree with your points.

It would be nice if there was a user’s manual or some such thing to help the new folk learn the environment. If it’s on steemit, no clue how to find it. If elsewhere, a signpost to it would be helpful. Of course, it’s probably been in my face the whole time and just didn’t see it ;)

Let me know if you need anything. It is very much learn as you go but there are lots willing to help. It IS frustrating. A manual WOULD help! The thing is its always changing which can be fun for us oldies on steem but confusing for newbies.

If we ever get SMTs they will be good for Steem.

I am curious if @steemit @steemitblog even have a plan for making SMTs better than Steem Engine tokens. I see them as basically just wasting their time on SMTs at this point, the infrastructure for Steem Engine tokens is insanely good already. I feel like having Steem Engine tokens and also SMTs would be overkill but maybe I’m wrong.

I think there is room for both and they could possibly make each other better with some in house competition. :)

I could make a case with different use cases that either could be a better solution.

It absolutely is! Good reminder.

I feel a bit bad that I haven't supported it... but feeling unsure about the future I can't tell others what to do with their stake. It's just not who I am.

#SPUD is just an initiative to show support and solidarity towards the Steem blockchain and for its community.
So don't or can't power up due to daily necessities, and that is ok, but they can show support for #spud5 with up votes, comments, and re-steems.
Anyhow, this movement is growing, and getting stronger, now with even bigger prizes too thanks to some amazing sponsors.

Take care, and have a good one!

Thinking if Steem survives, the community will owe you much gratitude. You are always one of my go to bloggers to get the pulse of the chain, even if sometimes you are a cheerleader. Your acknowledgment of issues at times is what separates you from the others who come off as being the dog in the fire meme claiming everything is fine.

Maybe Steemit will continue trying to connect with the community and have Eli offer you a liaison position.

Good luck with the New Steem thing. Have been quietly watching to see what manifests.

I'm a cheerleader because I love Steem.

I am also a realist and we have plenty of issues. :)

I attend every meeting I can and try to stay tuned. I am glad you find it helpful.

I fully acknowledge we are struggling with the bear market, endusers and any type of clear vision. Hang on...

Remember how Block.one purchased voice.com domain name for 30 million and what kind of marketing stunt that was? We need to buy some domain name for 50 million, haha. Just kidding... But seriously doing something out of the box in the field of marketing would turn many heads. Maybe even fundraiser for some good cause and then shout it from the rooftops about it. Yesterday I read in the news that New Zealand will legalize salaries paid in Bitcoin from September. It became the first country in the world for doing it. Some small country forward thinking country could partner like this with Steem.

I could almost believe I'm good for steem after reading this. Steem has been mostly good for me so it seems logical that I'm also mostly good for steem. Of course it's not ALL about me though lol.. Steem for me is good for the authentic souls I've come across and for providing me an education in crypto. I'm now the proud owner of a bitcent via steeming and I gave no KYC. Not exactly a company man by admitting I've traded steem for other coins but it is a success story in its own right. And just as you've said you're not willing to buy in just yet, neither am I. I am well aware for 100 USD I'm an instant minnow from 0. Something that took 10 months to achieve organically and had nothing to do with community or a strong middle class. If I depended on the other minnows and dolphins it would have taken years to do what a Benjamin Franklin can now accomplish with a click..

@wahtsup: "Investors come where people are gathered. Yes, it really is that simple."

No! Investor come where can earn money. Almost everyone here avoids or don't want to hear that rule.

Investment begins with putting something in. Sometimes just money and a waiting period but angel investors have pros and cons.

Every other type of investor I've ever seen and believe me I've seen many puts time, money and effort IN usually for a period of time... before having any expectations of return.

What some of our investors are doing is creating a ponzi. We both know it.

Maybe they are just waiting for something better than upvote bots. There are some potential in STEEM apps and SMTs but none in promising people that they will earn money by creating content. Maybe for a short time, or by joining some circle-jerk club. All inflation should go to Witnesses and SteemDAO/SPS.

who is going to create the content that D'apps need to operate? There are problems with how the funds get distributed to those who create content, those need to be dealt with so the needed content gets rewarded.

Your comment is a little like saying the body doesn't need an asshole until that part closes up and wont work. Then where are you?

0

D'apps creator need to solve that problem, and yes he (D'apps) can reward good content. That would be a much better solution than this existing one.

right and good to know that that HF21 is going to discourage shit posting and self-voting by large stakeholders

I’d be fine with all inflation going to SPS and require witnesses to propose their pay and author reward pool as regular proposals. Obviously there would be objections by authors, but if they don’t have advocates with stake to vote on the reward pool proposal, they won’t get much of a reward that month.

Making a witness pay pool contingent on proposal is just a formality. Of course it’ll get approved. Author reward pool would be the only contentious aspect, but at least it’s be a monthly experiment (or whatever timeframe) and regular price discovery.

The waiting this is what surprises me... I hear what you are saying about the upvote bots not being enough.

If I had a lot of stake I think I would consider putting out a bounty or paying someone to build something you think holds more value.

Hey it's totally up to you, but it seems that slowly watching steem lose value has to feel bad. I'm surprised more aren't coming together to do things that do add value.

High Inflation is good for Steem

haha, no hate, but I would love to see the explanation behind this one

0

Our number one problem is distribution. We can eat it now or later, but we need to the stake to move around. I'd rather get it over with.

(Edited)

Moving the stake around doesn't have anything to do with distribution though? If anything, it just creates an additional problem.

Print as many new shiny coins you want, the people who hold the largest amounts will still hold them, still be more valued than others, and still have sway. All inflation adds (ha! get it? adds?) to the mix is now those with smaller holdings see even less return / value.

To help with distribution, you simply need things to spend your money on. More games, services, etc.

Of course, this doesn't guarantee proper distribution, as some people will simply refuse to part with their precious internet coins.

The only option I can see with inflation is if your inflation protocol is to print new coins and only hand them out to those with lesser holdings, but that doesn't come without its own case of "wtf?"

Also, just a side note: I disagree with distribution being our number one problem. Ease of use / signup has to take the cake for me.

When people who don't value the token sell... people who do value the token buy.

I think we will have better luck with those who buy than the current state of things, but you do make some valid points worth considering.
